Purpose: Perimetry is a critical tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucomatous visual field defects. The Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) is a large, relatively expensive device that does not normally allow for examination outside of the clinic, and it can be ergonomically difficult to tolerate for some patients. The present study compared the novel Smart System Virtual Reality (SSVR) perimetric headset test to that of the HFA in a group of patients with glaucoma.

This study sought to examine different state laws and elucidate unique features and commonalities that may influence their effectiveness.
Design: A review of all state legislation to date regarding early eyedrop refills was performed.
Importance: This research confirms and further establishes that pathogenic variants in a fourth gene, METTL23, are associated with autosomal dominant normal-tension glaucoma (NTG).
Objective: To determine the frequency of glaucoma-causing pathogenic variants in the METTL23 gene in a cohort of patients with NTG from Iowa.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This case-control study took place at a single tertiary care center in Iowa from January 1997 to January 2024, with analysis occurring between January 2023 and January 2024.
Purpose: To characterize listenership and perceived educational impact of the ophthalmic podcast "Eyes for Ears".
Methods: A cross-sectional, internet-distributed, 9-question Qualtrics survey was made available to podcast listeners. Listenership metrics were analyzed from the podcast host platform.
The extracellular matrix (ECM) plays a crucial role in all parts of the eye, from maintaining clarity and hydration of the cornea and vitreous to regulating angiogenesis, intraocular pressure maintenance, and vascular signaling. This review focuses on the interactions of the ECM for homeostasis of normal physiologic functions of the cornea, vitreous, retina, retinal pigment epithelium, Bruch's membrane, and choroid as well as trabecular meshwork, optic nerve, conjunctiva and tenon's layer as it relates to glaucoma. A variety of pathways and key factors related to ECM in the eye are discussed, including but not limited to those related to transforming growth factor-β, vascular endothelial growth factor, basic-fibroblastic growth factor, connective tissue growth factor, matrix metalloproteinases (including MMP-2 and MMP-9, and MMP-14), collagen IV, fibronectin, elastin, canonical signaling, integrins, and endothelial morphogenesis consistent of cellular activation-tubulogenesis and cellular differentiation-stabilization.

They can be a valuable supplement to traditional teaching methods. Medical educators may wish to incorporate podcasts into their curriculum and disseminate their work to a larger audience, but may not know how.

Purpose: To propose a new test to identify color vision deficiency malingering.
Methods: An online survey was distributed to 130 truly color vision deficient participants and 160 participants willing to simulate color vision deficiency. The survey contained three sets of six color-adjusted versions of the standard Ishihara color plates each, as well as one set of six control plates.
In this paper, the authors describe an online tool with which to convert and thus quantify count finger measurements of visual acuity into Snellen equivalents. It is hoped that this tool allows for the re-interpretation of retrospectively collected data that provide visual acuity in terms of qualitative count finger measurements.

The primary goal was to visualize and quantify human TM contractile state by analyzing actin polymerization (F-actin) by 2-photon excitation fluorescence imaging (TPEF) in situ. A secondary goal was to ascertain if structural extracellular matrix (ECM) configuration changed with contractility.

The ophthalmologic sequelae of carotid-cavernous sinus fistulas are known and recognizable, but less commonly seen is the rare clival fistula. Clival dAVFs may have a variety of potential anatomical configurations but are defined by the involvement of the venous plexus just overlying the bony clivus.

A secondary aim was to describe 4 novel ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) measurements for plateau iris syndrome.
Design: Prospective case series with UBM evaluation.
We present the case of a 19-year-old female with a history of Down syndrome (DS) who was referred to our neuro-ophthalmology clinic for evaluation of Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON). The patient's family history was significant for a known G11778A mutation in a maternal relative, consistent with LHON. The patient was also positive for the G11778A mutation; however, the genotype demonstrated low penetrance in the pedigree, with only 1 out of 10 adult male offspring showing signs or symptoms of the disease.

The authors present three cases of chronic central serous retinopathy in which rifampin was used for the utility of its oral delivery in remote care and as an alternative to photodynamic therapy when intravenous access was not possible. In each of these cases, a reduction of subfoveal fluid and improvement of visual acuity were achieved.
