Pulsatile Erlotinib in EGFR-Positive Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Patients With Leptomeningeal and Brain Metastases: Review of the Literature.

Patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-positive (EGFR) non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) show improved response rates when treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) such as erlotinib. However, standard daily dosing of erlotinib often does not reach therapeutic concentrations within the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), resulting in progression of central nervous system (CNS) disease. Intermittent, high-dose administration of erlotinib reaches therapeutic concentrations within the CSF and is well tolerated in patients.

Unsuspected exposure to beryllium: potential implications for sarcoidosis diagnoses.

Exposure to Beryllium (Be) can cause sensitization (BeS) and chronic beryllium disease (CBD) in some individuals.  Even relatively low exposures may be sufficient to generate an asymptomatic, or in some cases a symptomatic, immune response. Since the clinical presentation of CBD is similar to that of sarcoidosis, it is helpful to have information on exposure to beryllium in order to reduce misdiagnosis.

Postmortem gastric perforation (gastromalacia) mimicking abusive injury in sudden unexplained infant death.

Gastromalacia is a postmortem autolysis of gastric tissue that can culminate in gastric perforation. This entity is well-recognized by pathologists but is rarely encountered by diagnostic radiologists. We are reporting a case of sudden unexplained infant death (SUID) in which a boy was found to have pneumoperitoneum on postmortem radiographs, subsequently proved by autopsy to be caused by postmortem gastric perforation resulting from gastromalacia.
