Outside of specific motor conditions, bodily movements are rarely considered in contemporary psychiatry. Stereotypies and mannerisms in clinical cases of catatonia are seen as having no deeper meaning in contemporary psychiatry. Perhaps we are missing something that could be important for us and our patients.

A Case Study Using a Behavioural Contract in Alcohol Dependence within a Crisis Home Treatment Team.

In this case study, we present a novel approach to care within a Home Treatment Team, using a behavioural contract. This is a signed, written agreement that targets specific behaviours for change. The concept draws on social learning theory in that it requires social interaction and a relationship to work.

The resignation of Sir William Charles Ellis.

Sir William Ellis (1780-1839) was superintendent of the West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum and Hanwell Asylum. He was a practitioner of moral therapy and non-restraint. He added his own religious aspects to his treatment based on his personal experiences.

Insulation Failure of the Linox Defibrillator Lead: A Case Report and Retrospective Review of a Single Center Experience.

Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) lead insulation failure and conductor externalization have been increasingly reported. The 7.8F silicon-insulated Linox SD and Linox S ICD leads (Biotronik, Berlin, Germany) were released in 2006 and 2007, respectively, with an estimated 85,000 implantations worldwide.

Advances in cardiology: clinical trial update.

Multiple key cardiology trials have been presented or published over recent months, several with the potential to change clinical practice. In this article, we summarize and place in clinical context new trial findings regarding anticoagulation in the cardiac catheterization laboratory (enoxaparin, fondaparinux and unfractionated heparin), the implications of genetic polymorphisms and functional testing for antiplatelet therapy (clopidogrel and ticagrelor), new oral anticoagulants for use in atrial fibrillation (apixiban and rivaroxaban), optimal pacing strategies and pharmacological agents in heart failure (ivabradine, eplerenone, cardiac resynchronization therapy, telemonitoring and intracoronary bone marrow stem cell infusion). Clinical trials in percutaneous structural intervention (transcatheter aortic valve implantation, MONARC™ mitral annular implant, STARFlex(®) patent foramen ovale device) and advanced percutaneous coronary intervention (everolimus-eluting stents, biodegradable polymer/polymer-free technologies and contemporary use of intravascular ultrasound) are also discussed.
