Background: Combination immune checkpoint blockade targeting PD-1 and CTLA-4 leads to high response rates and improved survival in advanced cutaneous melanoma (CM). Less is known about the efficacy of this combination in acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM).
Objectives: To determine the efficacy of combination immune checkpoint blockade targeting PD-1 and CTLA-4 in a real-world, diverse population of ALM.
Older Texans living in rural areas may face challenges in accessing resources and services not felt by their urban counterparts, especially related to fall risk reduction. In a state the size of Texas, entities wishing to serve these individuals encounter barriers due to the vast geography that must be covered to reach rural communities. This paper explores a novel partnership between a university and a community organization to work toward rural equity in fall risk reduction education in Texas.

However, it remains unclear today which approach is (A) most effective, (B) cost-efficient, and (C) nationally practiced.
Methods: In-hospital mortality and cost were collected from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database for patients undergoing liver ablation from 2011 to 2018.
Introduction: While minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is frequently utilized to remove small gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), MIS surgery for tumors ≥ 5 cm is currently not endorsed by national guidelines as standard of care due to concerns of safety and inferior oncologic outcomes. Hence this study investigates the perioperative and long-term outcomes of MIS for T3 gastric GIST measuring 5-10 cm.
Methods: The National Cancer Database (NCDB) 2017 was queried for gastric GIST measuring 5-10 cm or T3 category.
Background: The Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion demonstrated inconsistent effects on cancer surgery utilization rates among racial and ethnic minorities and low-income Americans. This quasi-experimental study examines whether Medicaid expansion differentially increased the utilization of surgical cancer care for low-income groups and racial minorities in states that expanded their Medicaid programs.
Methods: A cohort of more than 81,000 patients 18 to 64 years of age who underwent cancer surgery were examined in Medicaid expansion versus nonexpansion states.

Background: Adequate lymphadenectomy (AL) of 15+ lymph nodes comprises an important component of gastric cancer surgical therapy. Despite endorsement by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and the Committee on Cancer, initial adoption of this paradigm has been relatively slow. The current analysis sought to perform an adjusted time-trend evaluation of the factors associated with AL and its dissemination.

Whether it was associated with reduced disparities in use of regionalized surgery at high-volume hospitals (HVH) remains unknown. Quasi-experimental evaluations of this expansion were performed to examine the use of regionalized surgery at HVH among racial/ethnic minorities and low-income populations.

As such, we performed a hospital-level quasi-experimental evaluation to measure the differential effects of the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion on utilization of discretionary procedures versus non-discretionary procedures.
Methods: The State Inpatient Database (2012-2014) yielded 476 hospitals providing selected discretionary procedures or non-discretionary procedures performed on 288,446 non-elderly, adult patients across 3 expansion states and 2 non-expansion control states.
Background: The aim of this study is to describe a less aggressive approach to management of positive nipple margin following nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM), allowing for preservation of the nipple-areolar complex (NAC).
Study Design: A single-institution retrospective chart review was performed for patients undergoing NSM from 1989 to 2017. Positive nipple margin was defined as any residual invasive carcinoma or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) within the additional nipple margin.
In this study, we present a rare case of a 35-year-old man with a long-standing blue-black lesion on his left hand with subsequent infraclavicular and axillary lymph node tumor deposits. The hand lesion and lymph nodes were excised revealing histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular findings consistent with cellular blue nevus. Despite nonregional lymph node involvement, there has been no progression at 12-months follow-up.

The objective of this paper is to identify factors that (1) distinguish participants who chose patient navigation (PN) services from those who did not (non-PN) and (2) were associated with receiving a mammogram or Papanicolaou (Pap) test. This prospective study analyzed data collected from 2689 FTF+PN participants aged 18-99 years from March 1, 2012 to February 28, 2015 who self-identified as African American (AA), Latina, and non-Hispanic white (NHW).

Introduction: Sinus infections, sore throats, and upper respiratory tract infections (URI) are common reasons patients seek medical care. Well-established treatment guidelines exist for prescribing antibiotics in these clinical scenarios, but are not often followed.
Objective: The objective of this study is to determine practice patterns related to prescribing antibiotics for sinusitis, URI, and pharyngitis.
