Importance: At least 10 million people in the United States have an intellectual and/or developmental disability (IDD). Background: Repetitive transient intracranial pressure waveform elevations up to 50 mmHg (ICP B-waves) are often used to define pathological conditions and determine indications for ICP-reducing treatment. We recently showed that nocturnal transient ICP elevations are present in patients without structural brain lesions or hydrocephalus in whom they are associated with sleep apnea. Different techniques have been proposed to measure antibiotic levels within the lung parenchyma; however, their use is limited because they are invasive and associated with adverse effects. We explore whether beta-lactam antibiotics could be measured in exhaled breath condensate collected from heat and moisture exchange filters (HMEFs) and correlated with the concentration of antibiotics measured from bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL). We designed an observational study in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation, which required a BAL to confirm or discard the diagnosis of pneumonia.

This article explores how individuals with dementia and their relatives discursively construct dementia-friendliness in a situation where different definitions of this term exists. Thirteen semi-structured interviews were conducted, including seven individual interviews with people living with dementia. The remaining six interviews consisted of three interviews with the relatives of a person with dementia and three with married couples of which one were diagnosed with dementia.

Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) treats patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, depression and heart failure, but the mechanisms responsible are uncertain.
