Harmful algal blooms of toxin-producing microalgae are recurrent in southern Chile. Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) outbreaks pose the main threat to public health and the fishing industry in the Patagonian fjords. This study aims to increase understanding of the individual and spatial variability of PSP toxicity in the foot of Concholepas concholepas, Chile’s most valuable commercial benthic invertebrate species, extracted from the Guaitecas Archipelago in Chilean Patagonia.

Emergent Endovascular Repair of a Ruptured Ascending Aorta Pseudoaneurysm With Thoracic Aortic Stent Graft.

Pseudoaneurysm of the ascending aorta is a rare complication of cardiac surgery due to tissue degeneration at the site of graft anastomosis, aortotomy, or extracorporeal circulation cannulation. We describe the case of a patient who developed an ascending aorta pseudoaneurysm after coronary artery bypass graft surgery, which initially required percutaneous closure with an atrial septal defect occlusion device. However, three years later the patient presented again with active external bleeding secondary to pseudoaneurysm enlargement and rupture, which was emergently repaired by percutaneous endovascular repair with a thoracic aortic stent graft.

Internal Carotid Artery Web as the Cause of Recurrent Cryptogenic Ischemic Stroke.

Carotid artery web is considered an exceptional cause of recurrent ischemic strokes in the affected arterial territory. The underlying pathology proposed for this entity is an atypical fibromuscular dysplasia. We present the case of a 43-year-old woman with no cardiovascular risk factors who had experienced 2 cryptogenic ischemic strokes in the same arterial territory within an 11-month period.

Nontraditional Lipid Variables Predict Recurrent Brain Ischemia in Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source.

Objective: The aims of this study are, first, to calculate the risk of brain ischemia recurrence and embolic source diagnosis in the follow-up of patients with ESUS (embolic stroke of undetermined source) and, second, to identify the predictors of these events including cardiologic, laboratory, and clinical factors.

Methods: A retrospective observational cohort study of stroke patients admitted to the stroke unit in a single tertiary hospital from 2012 to 2014 was performed. Patients fulfilling ESUS criteria were identified and followed by medical history review until March 2016.

Introduction: Few studies report the epidemiological profile of RA patients attending clinics for comprehensive care. We describe the clinical, socio-demographic characteristics and comorbidities of a cohort of patients with RA.

Methods: Cross-sectional study in a cohort of patients according to ACR criteria/EULAR 2010 classification who have entered to the AR clinic since October 2012 until May 2014, referred from primary care.

It is associated with penumatosis intestinalis in 82% of cases, indicating severe abdominal pathology. Clinical diagnosis is difficult and the radiological study of choice is CT scan.

Credential-based authorization offers interesting advantages for ubiquitous scenarios involving limited devices such as sensors and personal mobile equipment: the verification can be done locally; it offers a more reduced computational cost than its competitors for issuing, storing, and verification; and it naturally supports rights delegation. The main drawback is the revocation of rights. Revocation requires handling potentially large revocation lists, or using protocols to check the revocation status, bringing extra communication costs not acceptable for sensors and other limited devices.
