Article Synopsis
  • - UC-EVs (umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles) are promising natural nanocarriers that can deliver miRNA-126, which helps maintain blood vessel health and protects kidneys from injury.
  • - The study tested the effectiveness of UC-EVs carrying miRNA-126 and anti-miRNA-126 on kidney cells exposed to damage from gentamicin, showing improved cell cycle regulation and reduced DNA damage.
  • - Results suggest that UC-EVs not only transport beneficial miRNA but may also contain other protective components that enhance their nephroprotective effects in kidney injury scenarios.

Unlabelled: Containing information molecules from their parent cells and inclining to fuse with targeted cells, bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells-derived extracellular vesicles (MSCs- EV) are valuable in nanomedicine.

Background: The effects of aging on the paracrine mechanism and in the production and action of MSCs-EV and their cargos of miR-26a and siRNA-26a for the treatment of tubular renal cells under nephrotoxicity injury remain unelucidated.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate MSCs-EV of different ages and their ability to deliver the cargos of miR-26a and siRNA-26a to target renal tubular cells affected by nephrotoxicity injury.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) obtained from bone marrow are a promising tool for regenerative medicine, including kidney diseases. A step forward in MSCs studies is cellular conditioning through specific minerals and vitamins. The Omega-3 fatty acids (ω3) are essential in regulating MSCs self-renewal, cell cycle, and survival.

Background: The efficacy of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSC) and its extracellular vesicles has been demonstrated for a broad spectrum of indications, including kidney diseases. However, BM-MSC donor characteristics and their potential are not usually considered. Therefore, the present work aims to evaluate the nephroprotective capacity of sEV secreted by BM-MSC from trained rats inunilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model.

Several studies have demonstrated an important association between altered lipid metabolism and the development of kidney injury because of a high-fat diet. Fructose is also closely associated with renal injury. We opted for a combination of fructose and saturated fats in a diet (DH) that is a model known to induce renal damage in order to evaluate whether soy isoflavones could have promising use in the treatment of renal alterations.

Purpose: To compare integration of bladder acellular matrix (BAM) with the bladder when seeded with mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and when MSC are injected intravenously (IV).

Methods: MSCs were isolated from bone marrow of EPM-1 Wistar male rats. Female rats were distributed into: Group A-BAM augmentation; Group B-BAM augmentation and MSCs IV administered; Group C-BAM-MSC seeded augmentation.

Introduction: Mesangial cells (MC) may be involved in the glomerular alterations induced by ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Objective: To evaluate the response of immortalized MC (IMC) to 30 minutes of hypoxia followed by reoxygenation periods of 30 minutes (H/R30) or 24 hours (H/R24).

Methods: The intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca+2]i) was measured before (baseline) and after adding angiotensin II (AII, 10-5 M) in the presence and absence of glybenclamide (K ATP channel blocker).

Objective: To assess the integration of decellularized heterologous collagen matrices into the urethra, when implanted with no cells or when seeded with autologous smooth muscle cells.

Materials And Methods: Eighteen New Zealand rabbits were randomly assigned to two groups: Group I (n = 9) - animals undergoing urethral segment resection with interposition of a patch of heterologous collagen matrix seeded with autologous smooth muscle cells; Group II (n = 9) - animals undergoing resection of a urethral segment with interposition of a decellularized heterologous collagen matrix patch. Two animals from each group were sacrificed on postoperative days seven, fourteen and twenty-eight; three animals from each group were sacrificed at the end of three postoperative months.
