Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) can lead to sensory and/or motor impairment. As a treatment photobiomodulation (PBM) has demonstrated positive effects in terms of the maintenance of muscle activation and trophism. Wistar rats were divided into five groups: control, injury, injury + PBMn (irradiation over injured nerve), injury + PBMm (irradiation over affected muscle) and injury + PBMnm (irradiation over nerve and muscle).

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Andreia S A Martinelli"

  • Andreia S A Martinelli's research primarily focuses on the therapeutic applications of photobiomodulation (PBM) in enhancing muscle repair following peripheral nerve injuries.
  • In her 2020 study, she investigated the effects of low-level laser therapy on muscle activation and trophism in Wistar rats subjected to nerve injuries.
  • The findings indicate that PBM positively influences muscle repair, with variations in treatment application (irradiation over the injured nerve, affected muscle, or both) showing distinct effects on recovery outcomes.
