Article Synopsis
  • The strategy for treating osteomyelitis involves surgical removal of infected tissue, antibiotic therapy, and using materials like cements and scaffolds for bone repair and drug delivery.
  • The study focused on creating a cost-effective hybrid biomaterial made from PLGA and ciprofloxacin that was applied to titanium plates using a specialized laser technique.
  • The resulting PLGA-ciprofloxacin scaffolds showed effective antibacterial properties and a sustained drug release for 45 days, indicating their potential for treating bone infections.

Asthma, a prevalent chronic respiratory condition affecting millions of children globally, presents a significant health challenge. This review critically examines the developmental pathways of asthma in children, focusing on genetic, environmental, and early-life determinants. Specifically, we explore the impact of prenatal and postnatal factors such as maternal smoking, nutrition, respiratory infections, and allergen exposure on asthma development.

Many studies have suggested that the oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is involved in an extensive spectrum of human pathologies, including neurodegenerative disorders, cardiomyopathy, obesity, and diabetes. Further, healthy aging and longevity appear to be closely related to NAD and its related metabolites, including nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN). As a dietary supplement, NR appears to be well tolerated, having better pharmacodynamics and greater potency.

The formation, proliferation, and evolution of glioblastoma (GB) are significantly influenced by pathological angiogenesis. This is supported by several growth factor receptors, such as the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR). In this experiment, we examined how the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved VEGFR blockers Sorafenib and Axitinib affect the viability of GB cells in vitro.

Background: The identification of biocomposites that improve cell adhesion and reduce bone integration time is a great challenge for implantology and bone reconstruction.

Aim: Our aim was to evaluate a new method of chemisorption deposition (CD) for improving the biointegration of hydroxyapatite-coated titanium (HApTi) implants. CD method was used to prepare a calcium fructoborate (CaFb) coating on a HApTi (HApTiCaFb) implant followed by evaluation of histological features related to bone healing at the interface of a bioceramic material in an animal model.

The recent years has revealed an intense interest in the study of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), particularly in regards to its intermediates, such as nicotinamide and nicotinic acid known as niacin, and also nicotinamide riboside. Besides its participation as a coenzyme in the redox transformations of nutrients during catabolism, NAD is also involved in DNA repair and epigenetic modification of gene expression and also plays an essential role in calcium homeostasis. Clinical and experimental data emphasize the age-dependent decline in NAD levels and its relation with the onset and progression of various age-related diseases.
