Assessment of the development of social skills among undergraduate medical students through participation in a socio-educational project during the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic: a Brazilian pilot study.

Coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 had an impact on medical graduation, causing weaknesses arising from social isolation and remote emergency teaching, with an emphasis on deficits in the development of non-technical skills (soft skills). In this context, the interaction between a group of medical students and adolescents who develop activities at the Center for Learning and Mobilization for Citizenship in Campinas/SP, Brazil, was evaluated about the development of soft skills during the COVID-19 pandemic. The observational study was carried out using an electronic questionnaire based on a Likert scale on the feelings of undergraduate medical students regarding participation in project activities in the context of the development of social skills.

Radiological changes in lead poisoning.

Epidemiological profile of dog attacks to patients under 14 years old assisted at the pediatric referral emergency unit of a tertiary hospital in Campinas, Brazil.

Introduction: Accidents involving dog attacks are very common, which makes this type of accident a global public health issue. The estimates point to 20% of the victims of such accidents seeking care in health units, and half of them being children. In addition to acute injuries, dog attacks might result in fractures, infections, scars, and psychological traumas.

Epidemiology of Ocular Trauma in a Pediatric Referral Unit, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

We performed a retrospective study of hospital records of children younger than 14 years with ocular trauma seen at our center in Sao Paulo, Brazil, between 2011 and 2012. From the total number of cases, 224 (89.2%) could be easily avoided.

Bilateral spontaneous chylothorax after severe vomiting in children.

Objective: To report the case of a child with bilateral chylothorax due to infrequent etiology: thoracic duct injury after severe vomiting.

Case Description: Girl, 7 years old, with chronic facial swelling started after hyperemesis. During examination, she also presented with bilateral pleural effusion, with chylous fluid obtained during thoracentesis.

Indications for head computed tomography in children with mild traumatic brain injury.

The "Evidence Based Telemedicine - Trauma and Emergency Surgery" (TBE-CITE) performed a critical appraisal of the literature and selected the three most relevant and recent publications on the indications for head computed tomography (CT) scan in pediatric patients with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). The first study identified patients with mild TBI, high and low risk factors for intracranial injuries detected on CT scan and need for neurosurgical intervention. The second study evaluated the guidelines of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence for pediatric patients with TBI.

Factors associated with complications of community-acquired pneumonia in preschool children.

Objective: To identify socioeconomic factors and clinical factors associated with the development of complications in preschool children hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).

Methods: This was a prospective longitudinal study involving children (12-59 months of age) diagnosed with CAP and admitted to the pediatric wards of two hospitals in the metropolitan area of Campinas, Brazil. Children with cystic fibrosis, heart disease, pulmonary malformations, neurological disorders, or genetic diseases were excluded.

Foreign body aspiration in children: clinical aspects, radiological aspects and bronchoscopic treatment.

Objective: To describe the clinical manifestations and bronchoscopic treatment of foreign body aspiration in children under 14 years of age, correlating the clinical aspects with the bronchoscopic findings.
