Article Synopsis
  • Researchers have tackled the challenge of crystal growth alignment in low-dimensional perovskites (LDPs) used for solar cells, specifically those with wide band gaps that hinder charge flow.
  • By adding chlorine to the precursor solution, they induced vertical crystal growth which enhances efficiency.
  • This method led to a significant power conversion efficiency of 9.4% and an open circuit voltage of 1.4V, paving the way for innovative solar applications in buildings and indoor energy solutions.

Promoting urban green spaces is an effective strategy to increase biodiversity in cities. However, our understanding of how local and landscape factors influence trophic interactions in these urban contexts remains limited. Here, we sampled cavity-nesting bees and wasps and their natural enemies within 85 urban gardens in Zurich (Switzerland) to identify factors associated with the diversity and dissimilarity of antagonistic interactions in these communities.

Improving the perovskite/electron-transporting layer (ETL) interface is a crucial task to boost the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). This is utterly fundamental in an inverted (p-i-n) configuration using fullerene-based ETLs. Here, we propose a scalable strategy to improve fullerene-based ETLs by incorporating high-quality few-layer graphene flakes (GFs), industrially produced through wet-jet milling exfoliation of graphite, into phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM).

Herein we show that dispersing inorganic cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr) perovskite quantum dots (QDs) in optical quality films, possessing an accessible and controlled pore size distribution, gives rise to fluorescent materials with a controlled and highly sensitive response to ambient changes. A scaffold-based synthesis approach is employed to obtain ligand-free QDs, whose pristine surface endows them with high sensitivity to the presence of different vapors in their vicinity. At the same time, the void network of the host offers a means to gradually expose the embedded QDs to such vapors.

Layered lead halide perovskites (2D LHPs) are attracting considerable attention as a promising material for a new generation of solar cell devices. LHPs have been presented as a more stable alternative to the more widespread 3D bulk perovskite materials; however, a critical analysis of their photostability is still lacking. In this work, we perform a comparative study between BAMAPbI (BA─butylammonium and MA─methylammonium) 2D LHPs with different dimensionalities ( = 1-3) and MAPbI 3D perovskites.

Halide perovskite materials offer an ideal playground for easily tuning their color and, accordingly, the spectral range of their emitted light. In contrast to common procedures, this work demonstrates that halide substitution in Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites not only progressively modulates the bandgap, but it can also be a powerful tool to control the nanoscale phase segregation-by adjusting the halide ratio and therefore the spatial distribution of recombination centers. As a result, thin films of chloride-rich perovskite are engineered-which appear transparent to the human eye-with controlled tunable emission in the green.

In the face of growing urban densification, green spaces in cities, such as gardens, are increasingly important for biodiversity and ecosystem services. However, the influences of urban green space management on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning (BEF) relationships is poorly understood. We investigated the relationship between soil fauna and litter decomposition in 170 urban garden sites along a gradient of urbanisation intensity in the city of Zurich, CH.
