To describe the characteristics of systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) and adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD), compare their presentation and evolution, and analyse possible complication predictors. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of the anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) for the screening of anterior uveitis in children diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).

Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, non-randomised study was conducted in JIA patients younger than 18 years. All patients underwent anterior segment (AS-OCT) and macular OCT.

Article Synopsis
  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate how serum levels of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and Dickkopf-related protein 1 (DKK-1) relate to changes in bone mineral density (BMD) among patients with well-managed rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
  • Methods: Researchers conducted an observational study involving 97 RA patients, analyzing BMD changes over an average of 2.7 years and measuring serum levels of OPG and DKK-1 at two time points, alongside treatment and disease activity.
  • Results: Most patients showed an improvement in BMD, but the association of OPG and DKK-1 with BMD loss varied by gender; OPG was linked to loss in men at the fem

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention on cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Methods: After determining their CVRF and cardiovascular risk (CVR) by modified SCORE, we gave the patients a letter for their general practitioners in which they were requested for their cooperation in controlling CVRF and where the therapeutic goal for LDL cholesterol was specified. Three months later, any therapeutic intervention was recorded as well as the results.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how often ischemic complications arise in patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA) who initially show only symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) without any vascular issues for at least three months.
  • Out of 167 patients with GCA, 18 (11%) were initially diagnosed with PMR and later experienced arteritic relapses, leading to a GCA diagnosis after starting low-dose steroid treatment.
  • Notably, 50% of these patients developed serious ischemic issues, such as vision loss or stroke, highlighting a significant risk of complications even in those presenting with PMR.

Introduction: Our objective was to determine which one of the two function charts available in Spain to calculate cardiovascular (CV) risk, Systematic COronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) or Framingham-REgistre GIroní del COR (REGICOR), should be used in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: A series of RA patients seen over a one-year period without history of CV events were assessed. SCORE, REGICOR, modified (m)SCORE and mREGICOR according to the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) recommendations were applied.
