Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the effectiveness of very accelerated partial breast irradiation (VAPBI) using 3-4 fractions to standard treatment requiring 7-8 fractions over 4-5 days for breast cancer patients.
  • A total of 81 patients participated, with findings showing a low breast recurrence rate of 3.4% and manageable side effects like pigmentation changes and mild fibrosis.
  • The conclusion suggests that VAPBI offers good local control similar to traditional methods but in a shorter timeframe, benefiting both patients and healthcare providers.

Surgical resection is widely used to treat small tumours located in the iris and the ciliary body, due to the accessibility of these sites. By contrast, surgical removal of choroidal tumours is substantially more challenging, which is why this procedure is performed only at specialised centres. In the present article, we review the literature on surgical resection of choroidal tumours, which can be performed as endoresection (ab interno) or transscleral resection (ab externo).

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to describe our institutional experience with accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) using multicatheter brachytherapy with high-dose-rate. We report 5-year survival outcomes, cosmesis, and treatment-related toxicity.

Methods And Materials: This included a retrospective review of patients who underwent breast-conserving surgery followed by APBI at our institution from 2004 to 2017.

Objective: To describe the initial experiencein our center on targeted prostate biopsies (TB) using Magnetic Resonance imaging/ultrasonography (MRI/US) fusion and to compare PCa detection with systematic biopsies (SB).

Patients And Me Thods: A retrospective, descriptive and comparative study was conducted on the first 94 men who underwent TB using MRU/US fusion in our center since February 2017 to March 2018. All patients underwent a protocol of 6-12 cores of systematic biopsies (SB) (except 9) and 2-6 targeted coreson the MRI index lesion.

Purpose: We hypothesized that radiation doses delivered with high-dose-rate (HDR) and pulsed-dose-rate (PDR) brachytherapy in patients with cervical cancer could trigger immune stimulation by modulating immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. The objective was to determine CD68, CD163, and PD-L1 expression in biopsies from patients with cervical cancer and to compare the effects of HDR vs. PDR brachytherapy on the expression of these proteins.

Purpose: Breast-conserving treatment (BCT) have emerged as an alternative to mastectomy in patients with ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR). We evaluated survival outcomes and treatment-related toxicity in a series of 40 patients with IBTR, who underwent tumorectomy plus interstitial brachytherapy (APBI) as a salvage treatment.

Material And Methods: Retrospective analysis included 40 patients diagnosed with IBTR and treated with intraoperative (26 patients) or post-operative (14 patients) multicatheter brachytherapy for APBI at our institution between June 2002 and October 2017.

Purpose: To describe the intraoperative multicatheter implantation technique for accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) delivered with high-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR-BT). Secondarily, to evaluate outcomes and toxicity in a series of 83 patients treated with this technique at our institution.

Material And Methods: Retrospective analysis of a series of patients treated with HDR-BT APBI after intraoperative multicatheter interstitial implant between November 2006 and June 2017 at our institution.

Background: Cervical cancer (CC) is -second to breast cancer- a dominant cause of gynecological cancer-related deaths worldwide. CC tumor biopsies and blood samples are of easy access and vital for the development of future precision medicine strategies.

Design: BIO-RAIDs is a prospective multicenter European study, presently recruiting patients in 6 EU countries.
