Introduction: Warfarin is a widely used oral anticoagulant with established reversal guidelines in the setting of a supratherapeutic international normalized ratio (INR). Limited literature exists on managing acute warfarin overdoses in patients who are not chronically anticoagulated.
Case: A 15-year-old male, with no indication for anticoagulation, presented to a pediatric emergency department after an acute 1,000 mg warfarin ingestion.
Although many studies have examined the role of chronic inflammation in cancer development, few studies discuss the patterns of acute inflammation prior to cancer diagnosis. Patients with lung, colorectal, prostate, or breast cancer between 1 July 2006 and 31 December 2009 and their metastatic status at diagnosis were determined through the Swedish Cancer Register. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) use in the year prior to cancer diagnosis was assessed through the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register.

We aim to explain these distinct effects in terms of the anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic properties of aspirin.
Methods: From the Swedish Cancer Register, we identified patients diagnosed with colorectal and lung cancers between 1st October 2006 and 31st December 2009; each cancer was assessed in terms of tumour size/extent (T), lymph-node (N) and metastatic (M) status.
