The lesions tested positive by direct potassium hydroxide examination, and two fungal strains were isolated. The isolates produced conidia abundantly and were morphologically indistinguishable from Trichophyton mentagrophytes/interdigitale, but were identified as Trichophyton indotineae by internal transcribed spacer sequence of ribosomal DNA.
