Background: Non-specific neck pain (NNP) affects 30-50% of the general population, and it often leads to severe disability. Several manual therapy techniques are available to reduce pain and disability and to improve cervical range of motion and functional activities. Muscle Energy Technique (MET) showed more evidence for treating such a disorder.

The VDAC3 isoform is the least abundant and least active in a complementation assay performed in a yeast strain devoid of porin-1. We swapped the VDAC3 N-terminal 20 amino acids with homologous sequences from the other isoforms.

VDACs are a family of pore-forming proteins mainly located in the mitochondrial outer membrane. In mammals three isoforms exist. In this work we review the information available about them with the addition of new results.

We previously identified two structurally different peptides that are both effective mimotopes: a 7-mer cyclic peptide (Rp15-C) bearing the antigenic motif (a/sNPS) that matches 170(ANPS)173 of the extracellular loop of CD20, and a 12-mer linear peptide (Rp5-L) containing the antigenic motif (WPxWLE) lacking sequence homology to CD20. In this study, we investigated whether the different structures of Rp15-C and Rp5-L reflect the mimicry of the same or different CD20 epitopes recognized by rituximab.

In eukaryotic genomes multiple genes coding for VDAC homologues have been discovered, but the functional meaning of this gene redundancy is unknown. In Drosophila melanogasterthree additional genes homologous to the gene porin (CG6647) have been found.

We have already shown that resveratrol (200 microM) triggers in DU145, an androgen-resistant prostate cancer cell line, a necrotic-like cell death, while propolis ethanolic extract (100 microg/ml) causes an apoptotic-like cell demise. The present research is aimed to better elucidate the molecular mechanisms activated by the two micronutrients.
