Prevalence of smoking in nursing professionals of a cardiovascular hospital.

Objective: to identify the prevalence of smoking in nursing professionals and to determine the relationship of the habit with clinical and socio-demographic characteristics.

Method: nursing professionals of a cardiovascular hospital answered a questionnaire on smoking and dependence degree, socio-demographic characteristics, personal and family background, smoking characteristics, motivational stages, depression, perceived and occupational stress. The relationship between the explanatory variables and smoking was investigated.

Nursing Diagnosis for People With Heart Failure Based on the Hemodynamic Profiles.

Objective: To investigate the association of nursing diagnoses (NDs) identified for patients with heart failure (HF) based on their hemodynamic profiles.

Method: Analytical, cross-sectional study conducted in the emergency room of a public hospital in a large cardiology center in Brazil. One hundred medical records of patients with HF whose hemodynamic profile had been established were analyzed.

Reasons for refusing a donor heart for transplantation in Brazil.

Background: Major advances have been made in heart transplantation, but there is a discrepancy between the number of patients potentially treatable by transplantation and the limited number of viable grafts. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reasons for refusal of donor hearts.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of donor data from an organ procurement organization in the state of São Paulo (Brazil) between 2010 and 2012.

Comparative analysis of family consent to tissue donation according to two different donation form structures.

Objective: To define donors' profile of an Organ and Tissue Procurement Center and compare the family consent for tissue donation before and after modification of the Donation Term.

Methods: A descriptive, documentary and quantitative study performed in an Organ and Tissue Procurement Center, analyzed 111 feasible donors' charts in the period from March 13 to September 13, 2010 (1st period), and from September 14, 2010 to March 14, 2011 (2nd period), based on the modification date.

Results: The mean age of donors was 45.

Hospital costs of coronary artery bypass grafting on elective coronary patients.

Objective: To assess hospital costs associated with coronary artery bypass grafting performed on elective coronary patients, and the relation of costs with the number of grafts.

Methods: Descriptive prospective study carried out at Instituto Dante Pazzanese de Cardiologia in April, May and June of 2005. Coronary patients of different ages and both genders were included.
