The notable features of ameloblastoma do not typically include prominent vascularity. However, on rare occasions, vascular ameloblastoma has been described under a variety of names. We present a case of vascularized ameloblastoma that had a bloody return on fine-needle aspiration.

Malignant Hyperthermia: A Case Report in a Trauma Patient.

Malignant hyperthermia is a rare condition that occurs in susceptible patients exposed to triggering anesthetic agents. It is associated with a high mortality rate if not recognized immediately and treated appropriately. A 52-year-old man presented to our clinic 2 days after an assault for management of jaw pain.

Technological advances in nontraditional orthodontics.

New technological advances have helped the orthodontic profession progress in traditional and surgical methods of treatment. The profession has seen transitions from traditional braces to self-ligating brackets, lingual braces, removable aligners, and more advanced technology, which have helped to address concerns that include but are not limited to better diagnostics, anchorage control, length of treatment, and esthetics. An increase in the number of adult patients seeking orthodontic treatment and the need for a timely efficient care will continue to drive technology and the use of cone beam computed tomography, miniscrews, piezocision, distraction osteogenesis, and bioengineering.

The role of computers in dental practice has dramatically changed over the past 30 years. We have witnessed the progression from administrative roles to complete integration leading to chartless offices. As the dental community gradually adopts this contemporary development, the move to electronic health records is imminent because of upcoming changes in the health care system.

Treatment of mandibular fractures via transoral 2.0-mm miniplate fixation with 2 weeks of maxillomandibular fixation: a retrospective study.

Purpose: The intraoral approach for placement of fixation plates for treatment of mandibular fracture has several advantages over the extraoral approach, including lower morbidity and avoidance of nerve VII injury. If this method were shown to be effective in contributing to a low percentage of postoperative complications, especially infection, nonunion, and need for plate removal, this would be a method of choice in treatment of such injuries, especially in dark-skinned or keloid-forming patients.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective study of 337 fractures of the angle, body, and parasymphyseal regions of the mandible treated at St Barnabas Hospital (Bronx, NY), a level I trauma center, from 2001 to 2006.

Pattern of mandibular fractures in an urban major trauma center.

Purpose: Many studies focusing on the pattern of presentation of mandibular fractures are inconclusive. This is largely due to a multifactorial involvement of associated factors and the role of anatomic factors.

Patients And Methods: We reviewed a 10-year retrospective analysis of the pattern of presentation of mandibular fractures at an urban level I trauma center in Washington, DC, and the significance of the variables in association with the fractures.
