Background: This study was performed to evaluate the usefulness of computed tomography (CT) scans of the sinuses in children with cystic fibrosis (CF) as an outcomes measurement for medical and surgically treated chronic rhinosinusitis.
Methods: Patients with CF who had sinus scans performed at the study institution from January 1999 to September 2003 were identified. The scans and any available prior scans were scored according to the Lund-MacKay system.
Objective: Although mastoid and middle ear obliteration provides the ultimate repair of an encephalocele, retained squamous epithelium may result in the occult recurrence of cholesteatoma. For most patients, a preferable technique is to perform a canal-wall-up mastoidectomy with middle fossa craniotomy. However, temporal lobe encephaloceles are occasionally found in patients with canal-wall-down cavities along with active cholesteatoma.

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) has been shown to play a role in the pathogenesis of many types of cancer, and its receptor (EGFR) provides an attractive target for molecular therapy.
Experimental Design: The expression of EGFR was determined in ATC in vitro and in vivo and in human tissue arrays of ATC.
