Modeling the Digital Twin (DT) is an important resource for accurately representing the physical entity, enabling it to deliver functional services, meet application requirements, and address the disturbances between the physical and digital realms. This article introduces the Log Mean Kinematics Difference Synchronization (SyncLMKD) to measure the kinematic variations distributed among Digital Twin elements to ensure symmetric values relative to a reference. The proposed method employs abductive reasoning and draws inspiration from the Log Mean Temperature Difference (LMTD).

Aims/hypothesis: Surviving beta cells in type 1 diabetes respond to inflammation by upregulating programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) to engage immune cell programmed death protein 1 (PD-1) and limit destruction by self-reactive immune cells. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their cargo can serve as biomarkers of beta cell health and contribute to islet intercellular communication. We hypothesised that the inflammatory milieu of type 1 diabetes increases PD-L1 in beta cell EV cargo and that EV PD-L1 may protect beta cells against immune-mediated cell death.

Unlabelled: A simple method based on solid-liquid extraction with a low-temperature partition (SLE/LTP) and analysis by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was optimized and validated for determining residues of the pesticides triadimenol, flutriafol, λ-cyhalothrin, difenoconazole, and azoxystrobin in oat flour. A factorial design was employed to optimize the technique and establish the best conditions for the simultaneous extraction of the analytes. Acetonitrile-sample extraction and its 4 h freezing made it possible to recover the pesticides and clean the extracts in a single step.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers found that the subseafloor crust harbors not only microbes and viruses, but also animals like the giant tubeworm Riftia pachyptila, suggesting a link between seafloor and subseafloor ecosystems.
  • The study proposes that tubeworm larvae may travel through the hydrothermal vent fluid rather than dispersing in the open water.
  • The discovery of these animals in the subseafloor has significant implications for understanding geochemical processes and highlights the necessity of protecting these habitats, which are not yet fully understood.

Thiotrophic symbioses between sulphur-oxidizing bacteria and various unicellular and metazoan eukaryotes are widespread in reducing marine environments. The giant colonial ciliate Zoothamnium niveum, however, is the only host of thioautotrophic symbionts that has been cultivated along with its symbiont, the vertically transmitted ectosymbiont Candidatus Thiobius zoothamnicola (short Thiobius). Because theoretical predictions posit a smaller genome in vertically transmitted endosymbionts compared to free-living relatives, we investigated whether this is true also for an ectosymbiont.
