The study aimed to compare hearing outcomes in patients with conductive hearing loss who underwent ossicular chain reconstruction using bone cement versus other materials.
A systematic review of literature from January 2000 to February 2022 identified 418 studies, but only seven met the criteria for analysis, including 187 patients using bone cement and 173 patients using alternative materials.
Results showed that ossicular reconstruction using bone cement had significantly better outcomes, with a higher likelihood of achieving a postoperative air-bone gap of ≤20 dB, indicating improved hearing.
