This paper describes the development, design and characterization of a resistive pulse sensing (RPS) system for the analysis of size distributions of extracellular vesicles (EVs). The system is based on microfluidic chips fabricated using soft-lithography and operated in pressure-driven mode. This fabrication approach provided reproducible pore dimensions and the best performing chip design enabled, without calibration, sizing of both 252 nm and 460 nm test particles within 8% of theoretically calculated values, based on the size specifications provided by suppliers.

Overconsumption of added sugars has been pointed out as a major culprit in the increasing rates of obesity worldwide, contributing to the rising popularity of non-caloric sweeteners. Multirotor Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) represent a significant improvement in capability for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging when compared to traditional, fixed-wing, platforms. Leiomyomas are benign tumours of smooth muscle cells that most often affect the female genital tract, but their metastasis to extra-uterine locations represent rare, yet misunderstood phenomena. The authors present a clinical case of a 42-year-old woman, who underwent a hysterectomy 15 years ago due to myomas, admitted with multiple pulmonary nodules and abdominal mass, diagnosed by imaging tests, in the context of haemoptysis. The anatomopathological exams of the pulmonary and abdominal lesions were compatible with the diagnosis of benign metastatic leiomyoma.

Plant organ growth is widely accepted to be determined by cell division and cell expansion, but, unlike that in animals, the contribution of cell elimination has rarely been recognized. We investigated this paradigm during Arabidopsis lateral root formation, when the lateral root primordia (LRP) must traverse three overlying cell layers within the parent root. A subset of LRP-overlying cells displayed the induction of marker genes for cell types undergoing developmental cell death, and their cell death was detected by electron, confocal, and light sheet microscopy techniques.
