Several research groups have confirmed that in the pathogenesis of the chronic inflammatory skin disorder rosacea, the composition of the skin and fecal microbiome of affected patients differs from that of healthy individuals. We studied the stool, blood and skin microbiomes of rosacea and control patients using 16S rRNA sequencing. Our goals were to determine 1.

Background: Novel therapies for cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) demonstrated efficacy and safety in previous trials. However, data on the comparison of these treatments is still lacking, limiting their integration into clinical practice. Therefore, our aim is to perform a systematic review and network meta-analysis to compare the efficacy and safety of novel systemic therapies in CLE.

The combinations of BRAF inhibitor-based targeted therapies with immune checkpoint inhibitors currently represent less common therapeutic approaches in advanced melanoma. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of currently available melanoma treatments by conducting a systematic review and network meta-analysis. Four databases were systematically searched for randomized clinical studies that included patients with advanced/metastatic melanoma receiving chemotherapy, immune checkpoint inhibitors, BRAF/MEK inhibitor therapy, or combinations thereof.

Darier disease (DD) is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis characterized by erythematous papules and plaques mainly involving sebaceous areas, such as the face, chest and back. Skin microbiome plays an essential role in maintaining skin homeostasis. A disturbed skin microbiome may contribute to the exacerbation of DD.

Article Synopsis
  • * This systematic review analyzes five FDA or EMA-approved imaging techniques—dermoscopy, high-frequency ultrasound, optical coherence tomography, line-field optical coherence tomography, and reflectance confocal microscopy—for their effectiveness in determining BCC surgical margins.
  • * These imaging methods could improve preoperative planning and possibly lower treatment costs, but their widespread use will hinge on factors like affordability and user-friendliness.

Introduction: Many studies have shown significant alterations in the gut microbiome of patients with psoriasis compared to healthy controls.

Aim: The primary objective of the current research was to explore the impact of gut microbiome composition on the progression and severity of plaque psoriasis.

Material And Methods: A total of 20 patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis and 20 healthy individuals were recruited and provided a stool sample to assess the gut microbiome.

Article Synopsis
  • * The analysis involved six studies with a total of 1,766 participants and found a 56% reduction in overall STI incidence, particularly effective against chlamydia and syphilis, with potential benefits for gonorrhea.
  • * Doxy-PEP shows promise as a preventative measure for bacterial STIs among men who have sex with men and transgender women, with no serious adverse events reported.

An estimated 70% of critically ill patients receive antibiotics, most frequently beta-lactams. The pharmacokinetic properties of these substances in this patient population are poorly predictable. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is helpful in making personalized decisions in this field, but its overall impact as a clinical decision-supporting tool is debated.

Melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer that is known for its metastatic potential and has an increasing incidence worldwide. Breslow thickness, which determines the staging and surgical margin of the tumor, is unavailable at initial diagnosis. Novel imaging techniques for assessing Breslow thickness lack comparative data.

(1) Background: Calcinosis of the skin mainly appears in connective tissue disorders (dystrophic subtype). It may cause inflammation, ulceration, pain, and restricted joint mobility. Management is difficult; sodium thiosulfate is one potential therapeutic agent with promising data on intralesional and topical formulation for smaller calcified lesions.

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common type of skin cancer in the Caucasian population. Currently, invasive biopsy is the only way of establishing the histological subtype (HST) that determines the treatment options. Our study aimed to evaluate whether optically guided high-frequency ultrasound (OG-HFUS) imaging could differentiate aggressive HST BCCs from low-risk tumors.

(1) Background: Genodermatoses are a clinically and genetically heterogenous group of inherited skin disorders. Diagnosing inherited skin diseases is a challenging task due to their rarity and diversity. Dermoscopy is a non-invasive, easily accessible, and rapid tool used in dermatology not only for diagnostic processes but also for monitoring therapeutic responses.

Carney complex (CNC) is an ultrarare disorder causing cutaneous and cardiac myxomas, primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease, hypophyseal adenoma, and gonadal tumours. Genetic alterations are often missed under routine genetic testing. Pathogenic variants in PRKAR1A are identified in most cases, while large exonic or chromosomal deletions have only been reported in a few cases.

Background: Each brain hemisphere plays a specialized role in cognitive and behavioral processes, known as hemispheric lateralization. In chronic skin diseases, such as plaque psoriasis (Pso) and atopic dermatitis (AD), the degree of lateralization between the frontal hemispheres may provide insight into specific connections between skin diseases and the psyche. This study aims to analyze the hemispherical lateralization, neurovegetative responses, and psychometric characteristics of patients with Pso and AD.

  • * A case study is presented of a 70-year-old woman with painful ulcers and granuloma annulare-like skin lesions, leading to a diagnosis of scrofuloderma, a type of cutaneous tuberculosis.
  • * It's important for healthcare providers in developed countries to consider scrofuloderma in their diagnosis of skin ulcers and recognize accompanying symptoms, like those seen in granuloma annulare.

Syphilis is characterized by a wide range of variable clinical symptoms; therefore, it is often referred to as "The Great Imitator". Here, we report the case of a 69-year-old hepatitis-C-positive MSM patient, who was admitted to our clinic due to a solitary firm painless erythematous maculopapular lesion with a central crater-like crust on the upper right thigh that occurred two months prior. The dermoscopy showed an erythematous, copper-colored, oval lesion with diffuse monomorphic dotted and glomerular vessels, central crust, and circular scaling (Biett's sign).
