Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 157 participants diagnosed with MASPD based on ultrasonography criteria. Baseline demographic data were collected, including age, gender, and body mass index.

Introduction: Vaccines are a significant public health achievement, which are crucial for child survival and disease control globally. In Brazil, the National Immunization Program (PNI) manages vaccination schedules, including essential vaccines like BCG and Hepatitis B, administered at birth. Despite achieving over 95% coverage for years, vaccination rates have declined since 2016, a trend exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Multi-Professional Family Support Programme: A Collective Development at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

This study was undertaken to structure and validate a Multi-Professional Family Support Programme that was collectively developed at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This is participative research of the action-research category with a qualitative-quantitative approach conducted at a University Hospital in the southeast of Brazil with the participation of their multi-professional staff. The study was done in four interdependent stages, adapted from the method proposed by Thiollent (2011): organisation, structuring, validation, and diffusion.

Oncolytic alphavirus-induced extracellular vesicles counteract the immunosuppressive effect of melanoma-derived extracellular vesicles.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs)-mediated communication by cancer cells contributes towards the pro-tumoral reprogramming of the tumor microenvironment. Viral infection has been observed to alter the biogenesis and cargo of EVs secreted from host cells in the context of infectious biology. However, the impact of oncolytic viruses on the cargo and function of EVs released by cancer cells remains unknown.

Recent advances in genomic methodologies have significantly enhanced our understanding of immune-mediated rheumatic diseases. Specific structural variants (SVs), such as substantial DNA deletions or insertions, including chromosomal aberrations, have been implicated in diseases of immune dysregulation. Regrettably, SVs are frequently overlooked in next-generation sequencing (NGS) targeted-gene panels, whole exome sequencing (WES) and whole genome sequencing (WGS).

The True Appearance Behind Satisfaction in Young Women: A Study Using Stereophotogrammetry and FACE-Q.

This cross-sectional observational study aimed to investigate the relationship between satisfaction with facial appearance among young women, as measured by the FACE-Q tool, and facial asymmetry quantified through stereophotogrammetry. A total of 50 women aged 18 to 30 years with a normal body mass index were recruited for the study. Participants were categorized as either symmetrical or asymmetrical based on facial asymmetry assessments obtained through clinical examination and stereophotogrammetry using the Vectra M3 system.

Educational technologies to promote the quality of life of people with diabetes: quasi-experimental study.

Objective: to verify the effect of educational technologies on the quality of life of people with diabetes.

Method: quasi-experimental study, before-and-after type, developed with a group of 34 people. Six interventions were carried out, in groups or individually, using educational technologies, such as clinical simulators and physical educational games.

Harmonization of anti-nuclear antibody testing (ANA) by indirect immunofluorescence assay: Results from ten years of UK NEQAS external quality assessment.

External quality assurance (EQA) programs play a pivotal role in monitoring laboratory practices, allowing each laboratory to evaluate the consistency of results across different methods as well the ability of individual laboratories to compare and improve over time their own performance. The objective of our study was to analyze the UK NEQAS EQA reports for the "Antibodies to Nuclear and Related Antigens" program from 2013 to 2023, to assess the overall level of harmonization of the responses for anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) testing by indirect immunofluorescence (IIF), in terms of both pattern and titer consensus. As a second aim, we analyzed the impact of the introduction in UK NEQAS EQA reports of the International Consensus on ANA Patterns (ICAP) nomenclature and of digital image recognition on the harmonization of the ANA HEp-2 IIF test.

Ceftazidime-avibactam tolerance and persistence among difficult-to-treat KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolates from bloodstream infections.

Purpose: Tolerance and persistence occur "silently" in bacteria categorized as susceptible by antimicrobial susceptibility testing in clinical microbiology laboratories. They are different from resistance phenomena, not well-studied, and often remain unnoticeable. We aimed to investigate and characterize ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) tolerance/persistence in 80 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from bloodstream infections.

Metallomic Approach to Mercury and Selenium in the Liver Tissue of and from the Brazilian Amazon.

This paper reports the results of a mercury (Hg) and selenium (Se) metallomic study in the liver tissues of and from the Brazilian Amazon. Two-dimensional electrophoresis, graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry, and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry were performed. Hg and Se determinations allowed the calculation of Hg:Se and Se:Hg molar ratio and Se values for health benefits (Se HBVs).

Acidity, simple sugars, and minerals can impact gum properties, thus defining their applications. This study aimed to evaluate and compare rarely reported physicochemical properties of commercial gums from diverse botanical sources used as food additives. The gums studied, as they come from different plants, are believed to present differences in the characteristics evaluated.

Two case reports of the parasitism of Ophionyssus natricis (Gervais, 1844) (Mesostigmata: Macronyssidae) in captive Epicrates crassus (Cope) (Squamata: Boidae) in Brazil.

There are more than 200 species of Macronyssidae parasitizing reptiles, birds, and mammals worldwide. While most species are found on wild animals, show some degree of geographic, and host group specificity, Ophionyssus natricis thrives on captive snakes and lizards and as a result of the pet trade, has a cosmopolitan distribution. In this study, we are providing new host records for this species for the state of São Paulo, as well as SEM images and the first partial sequences of Brazilian specimens.

Objective: To create a machine-learning predictive model combining prostate imaging-reporting and data system (PI-RADS) score, PSA density, and clinical variables to predict clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa).

Methods: We evaluated a cohort of patients who underwent prostate biopsy for suspected prostate cancer (PCa) in New Zealand, Australia, and Switzerland. We collected data on age, body mass index (BMI), PSA level, prostate volume, PSA density (PSAD), PI-RADS scores, previous biopsy, and corresponding histology results.

Spatio-temporal trends in mortality due to Chagas disease in the State of Bahia, Brazil, from 2008 to 2018.

Background: Chagas disease is a silent illness with high mortality burden in many Latin American countries, such as Brazil. Bahia has the fourth highest mortality rate in Brazil. This study analyzed the temporal trends and regional differences in the mortality rate of Chagas disease in Bahia State from 2008 to 2018.

Hypercalcemia and Acute Kidney Injury Associated with Disseminated Paracoccidioidomycosis.

Paracoccidioidomycosis is an acute to chronic systemic mycosis caused by the fungi Paracoccidioides. Hypercalcemia is a rare and not fully understood presentation of this infection. We present a case report of paracoccidioidomycosis associated with hypercalcemia and acute kidney injury (AKI) in an immunocompetent patient.

Kidney replacement therapy in COVID-19-Related acute kidney injury: The impact of timing on mortality.

The objective of this study was to determine the impact of the timing of KRT, dichotomized by a temporal criterion or by creatinine level, in patients with COVID-19-related AKI. This was a retrospective study involving 512 adult patients admitted to the ICU. All participants had laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and a confirmed diagnosis of AKI.
