Bi-hormonal islet endocrine cells have been proposed to represent an intermediate state of cellular transdifferentiation, enabling an increase in beta-cell mass in response to severe metabolic stress. Beta-cell plasticity and regenerative capacity are thought to decrease with age. We investigated the ontogeny of bi-hormonal islet endocrine cell populations throughout the human lifespan.

This study aimed to assess the predictive role of chronic kidney disease in long-term major adverse CV events in patients submitted to aortoiliac revascularization due to severe aortoiliac atherosclerotic disease.
Methods: From 2013 to 2023, patients who underwent aortoiliac revascularization for TASC II type D lesions, including those with chronic kidney disease, were selected from a prospective cohort study.
"Low Carbon Brazilian Beef" (LCBB) represents a Brazilian concept brand that certifies livestock systems adopting specific technical guidelines to minimize methane gas emissions from cattle. Understanding consumers' perceptions of this brand concept can help develop strategies to promote its consumption. The objective of this study was to investigate the perception of Brazilian consumers living in the state of Rio de Janeiro regarding the LCBB through free word association and to evaluate the influence of socio-demographic variables, green consumption values and frequency of beef consumption in associations.

Methods: This is a population-based cross-sectional epidemiological study conducted with 232 older adults (women: 58.60%; men: 41.
Although androgenic alopecia is the most prevalent among non-cicatricial alopecia, it still lacks an effective and safe treatment. Dutasteride (DUT) shows promising results in hair regrowth; however, oral DUT intake causes serious sexual adverse events. Hence, we produced liposomes with different bilayer structures and evaluated the capability of such systems in increasing DUT accumulation in the hair follicles.

is a vector responsible for the transmission of various arboviruses and is considered by the World Health Organization to be one of the main public health problems in the world. This study evaluated the larvicidal and oviposition activity of essential oils from , and and their formulations. Chromatographic analysis by GCMS identified a total of 28, 52 and 18 compounds for the oils of the species , and , respectively.

Cardiac fibrosis impacts the underlying pathophysiology of many cardiovascular diseases by altering structural integrity and impairing electrical conduction. Identifying cardiac fibrosis is essential for the prognosis and management of cardiovascular disease; however, current diagnostic methods face challenges due to invasiveness, cost, and inaccessibility.

Among various regulatory and technological solutions, voluntary demand response can help balance generation and demand during periods of energy scarcity or renewable energy generation surplus. This work presents an open data service called Interoperable Recommender that leverages publicly accessible data to calculate a country-specific operational balancing risk, providing actionable recommendations to empower citizens toward adaptive energy consumption, considering interconnections and local grid constraints.

Background And Aims: Amiodarone is frequently prescribed alongside direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in atrial fibrillation (AF). There are concerns regarding drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between amiodarone and DOACs. The literature is conflicting on the clinical implications of this DDI, hence we conducted a meta-analysis to compare bleeding risk among patients receiving DOACs, with and without concurrent amiodarone.

Accurate estimation of RVH/RVD is vital for the ongoing management of this patient population. The utility of the ECG in evaluating patients with rTOF with pre-existing right bundle branch block (RBBB) has not been studied.

Objective: This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the magnitude of the antiprogression effect of catheter ablation as well as the effect of intervention timing.
Methods: MEDLINE/EMBASE databases were searched until April 1, 2024 for RCTs comparing catheter ablation and AAD therapy for the treatment of paroxysmal AF and reporting the rate of progression to persistent AF at 3 years (PROSPERO CRD42024534288).
Purpose: To assess the retinal microvasculature of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA).
Methods: Twenty adult SLE patients without disease activity and no ocular manifestations were recruited and cross-sectionally assessed. A demographically similar cohort of healthy subjects was used for comparison.
This study investigated pumpkin seed protein (PSP) as a carrier for astaxanthin (AST). Interaction mechanisms revealed through fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular docking, showed that hydrogen bonds and Van der Waals forces form the PSP-AST complex. AST binding altered PSP's secondary structure, increasing α-helix (7.

In 2007, the first joint expert consensus document was issued, guiding healthcare professionals involved in catheter or surgical AF ablation. Mounting research evidence and technological advances have resulted in a rapidly changing landscape in the field of catheter and surgical AF ablation, thus stressing the need for regularly updated versions of this partnership which were issued in 2012 and 2017.

Methods: Cross-sectional study with data from the 2019 National School Health Survey (PeNSE). Prevalence of self-reported body image dissatisfaction and respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) and its association with individual characteristics were estimated via odds ratios (OR) and 95% CI using logistic regression.
The use of agro-industrial wastes as biosorbents is a promising alternative for sustainable, economical and effective adsorption. However, few studies evaluate the use of Brazilian agro-industrial waste as biosorbents without physicochemical pre-treatment. This study explored the potential of sugarcane bagasse (SCB) and rice husk waste (RHW) as low-cost biosorbents for yellow tartrazine dye removal.

Objectives: To evaluate evidence-based therapies, occurrence of outcomes, reperfusion use, and predictors of not receiving reperfusion in patients with STEMI in a national multicenter registry.
Methods: Patients with STEMI from the ACCEPT registry, with up to 12 hours of symptoms, were followed for 1 year for the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events.
Background: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a systemic autoimmune disorder characterized by thrombosis, pregnancy complications, and other nonthrombotic manifestations in the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies. Neurovascular complications, including ischemic stroke, cerebral venous thrombosis and cognitive impairment, pose significant challenges in management.
Objective: To comprehensively review relevant and updated clinical aspects of neurovascular manifestations of APS.
Background: The long-term effects of catheter ablation (CA) compared with medical therapy on cardiovascular outcomes for atrial fibrillation (AF) remain undetermined.
Objective: Using a population-based cohort, we sought to determine what the association between CA and medical therapy was on these outcomes.
Methods: By use of Alberta administrative data, patients with AF as the primary diagnosis during hospitalization, emergency department visit, or physician visit were included between October 1, 2008, and March 31, 2018.
Androgenic alopecia has a high incidence, affecting 80% of men and 50% of women in their lifetimes. Although not a life-threatening disease, it can be a deep psychological burden to patients and still lacks an effective and safe treatment. Dutasteride is a5-alpha-reductase inhibitor approved to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia that is also commonly prescribed to treat androgenic alopecia.

However, in Gram-positive bacteria this protein is expendable for riboregulation, and the main function of Hfq remains elusive. This work unveils a novel function for Hfq in the oxidative stress response of the human pathogen Listeria monocytogenes, a Gram-positive bacterium responsible for the infectious disease listeriosis.
