Background Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching isn't routinely performed in heart transplantation. Novel allograft perfusion methods may make HLA matching feasible. The purpose of this study is to reexamine whether HLA mismatch may be used in risk stratification to improve outcomes in heart transplantation.

Factors influencing long-term heart failure mortality in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in Western Sweden: probable dose-related protection from beta-blocker therapy.

Objective: In order to avoid effects of referral bias, we assessed risk factors for disease-related mortality in a geographical cohort of patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), and any therapy effect on survival.

Methods: Diagnostic databases in 10 hospitals in the West Götaland Region yielded 251 adult patients with HOCM (128 male, 123 female). Case notes were reviewed for clinical data and ECG and ultrasound findings.

The aim of this study was to identify whether the causes of physicians' uncertainty was practical, patient-centred, medical, or cultural.

Background: The search for diagnostic biomarkers has been profiting from a growing number of high quality sequenced genomes and freely available bioinformatic tools. These can be combined with wet lab experiments for a rational search. Improved, point-of-care diagnostic tests for visceral leishmaniasis (VL), early case detection and surveillance are required.

Concomitant use of pembrolizumab and entinostat in adult patients with metastatic uveal melanoma (PEMDAC study): protocol for a multicenter phase II open label study.

Background: While recent years have seen a revolution in the treatment of metastatic cutaneous melanoma, no treatment has yet been able to demonstrate any prolonged survival in metastatic uveal melanoma. Objectives: First-generation radiofrequency renal denervation devices may have had limited efficacy due to incomplete circumferential ablation and dependence on individual operator technique. This study evaluated a next-generation catheter-based technology using ultrasound designed to maximize nerve coverage using circumferential ultrasound energy.

Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, nonrandomized, postmarket study evaluating the safety and efficacy of an endovascular ultrasound renal denervation system (Paradise) in patients who met the European Society of Hypertension/European Society of Cardiology definition of resistant hypertension.

Incidental metastases and lymphoma of the gallbladder - an analysis of ten rare cases identified from a large national database.

The aim was to identify and characterize rare malignancies of the gallbladder, incidentally found at cholecystectomy, and describe the diagnostic work-up, treatment and outcome. Data from cholecystectomies during 2007-2014 registered in the Swedish Register for Gallstone Surgery (GallRiks) were analyzed for incidental cancer. For completion of the pathology report, data were linked with the Swedish Registry for Cancer in the liver and biliary tract (SweLiv) and/or the Swedish Cancer Registry.

Protein N-terminal acetylation is a co- and posttranslational modification, conserved among eukaryotes. It determines the functional fate of many proteins including their stability, complex formation, and subcellular localization. N-terminal acetyltransferases (NATs) transfer an acetyl group to the N-termini of proteins, and the major NATs in yeast and humans are NatA, NatB, and NatC.

Conditioning with busulfan plus melphalan versus melphalan alone before autologous haemopoietic cell transplantation for multiple myeloma: an open-label, randomised, phase 3 trial.

Background: Retrospective studies suggest that conditioning therapy with busulfan plus melphalan could result in longer progression-free survival compared with melphalan alone in patients with multiple myeloma undergoing autologous haemopoietic cell transplantation (auto-HCT). We aimed to test this hypothesis in a randomised trial.

Methods: The primary objective of the study was to compare progression-free survival with conditioning of busulfan plus melphalan with melphalan alone in patients with multiple myeloma.

Background: A calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-free immunosuppressive regimen has been demonstrated to improve renal function early after heart transplantation, but long-term outcome of such a strategy has not been well described.

Methods: In the randomized SCHEDULE trial, de novo heart transplant recipients received (1) everolimus with reduced-exposure CNI (cyclosporine) followed by CNI withdrawal at week 7-11 posttransplant or (2) standard-exposure cyclosporine, both with mycophenolate mofetil and corticosteroids; 95/115 randomized patients were followed up at 5-7 years posttransplant.
