Digital mass filters are advantageous for the analysis of large molecules due to the ability to perform ion isolation of high-/ ions without the generation of very high radio frequency (RF) and DC voltages. Experimentally determined Mathieu stability diagrams of stability zone 1,1 for capacitively coupled digital waveforms show a voltage offset between the quadrupole rod pairs is introduced by the capacitors which is dependent on the voltage magnitude of the waveform and the duty cycle. Folic acid (synthetic folate, FA) is consumed in excess in North America and may interact with common pathogenic variants in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR); the most prevalent inborn error of folate metabolism with wide-ranging obesity-related comorbidities. The pathoetiology and pathophysiology of motor neuron loss in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) are still to be determined, with only a small percentage of ALS patients having a known genetic risk factor. The article looks to integrate wider bodies of data on the biological underpinnings of ALS, highlighting the integrative role of alterations in the mitochondrial melatonergic pathways and systemic factors regulating this pathway across a number of crucial hubs in ALS pathophysiology, namely glia, gut, and the muscle/neuromuscular junction. It is proposed that suppression of the mitochondrial melatonergic pathway underpins changes in muscle brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and its melatonergic pathway mimic, N-acetylserotonin, leading to a lack of metabolic trophic support at the neuromuscular junction.

There is a growing interest in the role of alterations in mitochondrial metabolism in the pathoetiology and pathophysiology of cancers, including within the array of diverse cells that can form a given tumor microenvironment. The 'exhaustion' in natural killer cells and CD8+ t cells as well as the tolerogenic nature of dendritic cells in the tumor microenvironment seems determined by variations in mitochondrial function. Recent work has highlighted the important role played by the melatonergic pathway in optimizing mitochondrial function, limiting ROS production, endogenous antioxidants upregulation and consequent impacts of mitochondrial ROS on ROS-dependent microRNAs, thereby impacting on patterned gene expression.

Lipocalin 1 (Lcn1), a 16 kDa protein abundant in human periciliary fluid, has a robust drug-like structure well suited to protein engineering, but it has never been used to make an inhaled Anticalin protein therapeutic.

In 1972, Glenn Anderson collaborated with New York University colleague Frank Bowe to publish an American Annals of the Deaf article titled "Racism Within the Deaf Community" (Anderson & Bowe, 1972). It was written, in part, due to the influence of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, which affected both the Black Deaf and Black hearing communities, as well as in response to Anderson's experiences with a Deaf club in Detroit. Given that 52 years have passed since the article was published, this updated version, coauthored with Gallaudet University colleague Lindsay Dunn, addresses the following issues, among others: racial inequity in the educational and employment attainment of Black Deaf persons, their personal experiences with institutional and systemic racism, and their perspectives on what must be done to progress toward dismantling institutional and systemic racism in the Deaf community today and tomorrow.

Timing of puberty requires exquisite coordination of genes, hormones, and brain circuitry. An increasing level of body adiposity, signaled to the brain via the fat-derived hormone leptin, is recognized as a major factor controlling puberty onset.
