Split-Dose Regimen With Bisacodyl Increases the Quality of Bowel Preparation for Colonoscopy.

The aim of the present study was to compare 2 different bowel preparations procedures (split-dose with PicoPrep and bisacodyl vs. same-day preparation with PicoPrep) in patients undergoing colonoscopy with regard to quality of bowel preparation, compliance, and willingness to repeat. A retrospective quasi-experimental investigation was conducted.

Hepatic macrophage activation and the LPS pathway in patients with alcoholic hepatitis: a prospective cohort study.

Objectives: Inflammatory activation of resident hepatic macrophages (Kupffer cells) by portal-derived lipopolysaccharide (LPS) has a primary role in animal models of alcoholic liver disease, but it has not been systematically or longitudinally studied in human alcoholic hepatitis (AH).

Methods: We followed 50 patients with AH for 30 days. 26 patients with stable alcoholic cirrhosis and 20 healthy individuals were controls.

Background: Alcoholic hepatitis (AH) has a severe prognosis due to hepatic inflammatory injury. The cytokine interleukin-22 (IL-22) is reported to exert anti-apoptotic and proliferative effects, but IL-22 has not been studied during the course of AH. IL-22 is mainly produced by CD4(+) (helper) T cells, including Th17 cells.
