Objectives: Investigate the association between injury severity and sports-related analgesic use, and explore the types and reasons for analgesic use in Danish youth elite athletes.

Design: 4-week prospective cohort study.

Methods: 713 youth elite athletes (44 % female) aged 15-20 years provided information on demographics, sports specific questions, and injury severity.

Background: No systematic summary exists on childhood physical activity and later-life multimorbidity risks. We primarily investigated the association of physical activity in childhood and adolescence and the development of multimorbidity in adulthood. Secondarily, we examined whether physical activity level differ in children and adolescents with and without multimorbidity and whether there is a cross-sectional association between physical activity and multimorbidity.

Upper gastrointestinal cancer is frequently complicated by venous thromboembolisms (VTE), especially pulmonary embolisms (PE) increase the mortality rate. Monocytes are a part of the innate immune system and up-regulation may indicate an ongoing inflammatory response or infectious disease and has lately been associated with a moderate risk of suffering from VTE. This prospectively study aims to compare the incidence of pulmonary embolism with markers of coagulation and compare it to the absolute monocyte count.

Introduction: Current prognostic blood-based biomarkers for pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) are limited. Recently, promoter hypermethylation of SFRP1 (phSFRP1) has been linked to poor prognosis in patients with gemcitabine-treated stage IV PDAC. This study explores the effects of phSFRP1 in patients with lower stage PDAC.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains one of the major causes of cancer-related mortality globally. Unfortunately, current prognostic biomarkers are limited, and no predictive biomarkers exist. This study examined promoter hypermethylation of secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (phSFRP1) in cfDNA as a prognostic biomarker and predictor of treatment effect in patients with metastatic FOLFIRINOX-treated PDAC and locally advanced PDAC.

Background And Objective: Gallstones are highly prevalent, and more than 9000 cholecystectomies are performed annually in Denmark. The aim of this guideline was to improve the clinical course of patients with gallstone disease including a subgroup of high-risk patients. Outcomes included reduction of complications, readmissions, and need for additional interventions in patients with uncomplicated gallstone disease, acute cholecystitis, and common bile duct stones (CBDS).

No reliable predictive blood-based biomarkers are available for determining survival from pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This combined discovery and validation study examines promoter hypermethylation (ph) of secreted frizzled-related protein 1 (SFRP1) in plasma-derived cell-free DNA as an independent prognostic marker for survival and Gemcitabine effectiveness in patients with stage IV PDAC. We conducted methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction analysis of the promoter region of the SFRP1 gene, based on bisulfite treatment.

Dysphagia has several typical causes. In this case report a young adult with difficulties in swallowing since childhood is diagnosed with a rare anatomical variation of the aortal branches.

Cancer-associated venous thrombosis (VTE) increases mortality and morbidity. However, limited tools are available to identify high risk patients. Upon activation, neutrophils release their content through different mechanisms, thereby prompting thrombosis.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate adherence to Barrett's esophagus (BE) surveillance guidelines in Denmark.

Methods: The Danish Pathology Registry was used to identify 3692 patients. A total of 300 patients were included by drawing a simple random sample.

Introduction: Few prognostic biomarkers are available for pancreatic cancer. The aim of this study is to examine the correlation between the survival of pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients and hypermethylated genes in plasma-derived cell-free DNA.

Methods: Consecutive patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma were prospectively included and staged according to the TNM classification.

Correct staging of pancreatic cancer is paramount, as treatment is stage specific. However, minimally invasive tools to facilitate staging are lacking. DNA promoter hypermethylation is a hallmark of cancer.

Background: Pancreatic cancer has a 5-year survival rate of only 5-7%. Difficulties in detecting pancreatic cancer at early stages results in the high mortality and substantiates the need for additional diagnostic tools. Surgery is the only curative treatment and unfortunately only possible in localized tumours.

To examine the impact of plasma D-dimer levels in predicting 3-year survival and nonresectability in pancreatic cancer patients. Ninety-five patients were divided into three groups according to plasma D-dimer levels. Kaplan-Meier survival curves and hazard ratios were computed, and diagnostic indices of D-dimer in the prediction of resectability were assessed.

Introduction: Prospective studies of chemotherapy-associated VTE in cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy in combination with curative intended surgery have not been reported for upper gastrointestinal cancer. In this clinical prospective study, we sought to estimate the incidence of VTE in esophagogastric cancer (OEC) patients scheduled for a specific perioperative chemotherapy regime: oxaliplatin, capecitabine, and epirubicin, (EXE) and curative intended surgery.

Material And Methods: A total of 129 consecutive OEC patients were examined using state-of-the-art bilateral compression ultrasound (biCUS) for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) before undergoing preoperative chemotherapy, surgery, and postoperative chemotherapy.

Background: Recent clinical trials have demonstrated the benefit and feasibility of perioperative chemotherapy for treatment of gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma (GEA). Despite convincing results, patients entering such trials usually represent only a fraction of those who are candidates for treatment. Confirmation of trial-reported effects and tolerability in unselected cohorts is therefore required.
