The trypanosomatid Angomonas deanei is a model to study endosymbiosis. Each cell contains a single β-proteobacterial endosymbiont that divides at a defined point in the host cell cycle and contributes essential metabolites to the host metabolism. Additionally, one endosymbiont gene, encoding an ornithine cyclodeaminase (OCD), was transferred by endosymbiotic gene transfer (EGT) to the nucleus.

Bile salt hydrolase (BSH) activity, hypo-cholesterolemic effect, and probiotic properties have been reported for strains isolated from animal and human gut and fermented foods but not for strains isolated from environmental niches, like aquatic and terrestrial plants, soil, and water. The present study is the first report on isolation of from rhizospheric soils that harbor the gene, remove cholesterol , and possess essential and desirable probiotic attributes. Fifteen samples were collected from different sites located in northern, southern, and central regions of India, of which five yielded pure colonies that were named LR2, LR3, ER5, LR13, and VB1.

The aim of the present study was to determine antimicrobial susceptibilities, biofilm production and, to discern a relationship between antimicrobial resistance, biofilm potential and virulence-related genes in strains of biotype 1A. Thirty strains of biotype 1A including clinical and non-clinical strains were investigated. Thermophilc mold Sporotrichum thermophile secretes an acidstable and thermostable phytase, which finds application as a food and feed additive because of its adequate thermostability, acid stability, protease insensitivity and broad substrate spectrum. Low extracellular phytase production by the mold is a major bottleneck for its application on a commercial scale. We have successfully overcome this problem by constitutive secretary expression of codon optimized rStPhy under glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase (GAP) promoter in Pichia pastoris.
