Paraneoplastic glomerulonephritis and kidney infiltration by mantle cell lymphoma: A diagnostic challenge.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare and aggressive type of lymphoma that can affect the kidneys. The disease can lead to kidney impairment, and glomerulonephritis (GN) is a rare but serious complication of MCL. We report a case of MCL with kidney interstitial infiltration and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis with focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis.

Carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder diagnosed in a cholecystectomy specimen.

We report the case of a patient with an incidental diagnosis of gallbladder adenocarcinoma with chondrosarcomatoid areas in a cholecystectomy specimen. Since it is associated with a worse prognosis when compared to usual carcinoma, we need to understand this entity to offer our patients a better treatment.

Primary papillary serous carcinoma of the peritoneum: report of a case with diagnosis by fine needle aspiration and immunocytochemistry.

Background: Primary papillary serous carcinoma (PPSC) of the peritoneum is a rare neoplasm, histologically indistinguishable from papillary serous carcinoma of the ovary, which diffusely involves the peritoneum but spares or minimally invades the ovaries. To the best of our knowledge, the preoperative and the fine needle aspiration diagnosis of this disorder have not been reported before.

Case: A woman developed an extensive peritoneal neoplasm 4 years after hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for benign disease.

Intestinal microvillous atrophy in a patient with Down syndrome and aganglionic megacolon.

Intestinal microvillous disorders are an uncommon cause of severe diarrhea, with very poor prognosis. The authors report the case of a female infant with Down syndrome, aganglionic megacolon, severe diarrhea, and jejunal biopsy with ultrastructural changes consistent with microvillous atrophy. The patient condition improved after a colostomy performed in the setting of the treatment of Hirschprung disease.

Usefulness of light microscopy in lymph node fine needle aspiration biopsy.

Objective: To evaluate light microscopic examination of lymph node fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) in order to determine the indications for ancillary procedures and biopsy.

Study Design: Reports and smears from 693 consecutive lymph node FNABs were reviewed. Fifty-five cases were excluded because of inadequacy of the material, and another 26 were excluded because follow-up information was not available.
