Introduction: Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in India face additional health inequities compared to their male peers, as gender norms constrain agency for prevention and self-care. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated lockdowns deepened health inequities and often worsened mental health, but the impacts on agency are unclear. This exploratory sequential mixed methods paper examined mental health and COVID-19 elements that exacerbated or mitigated adverse consequences for AGYW in low-income communities in Mumbai.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are neoplasms of neural cells in the gastrointestinal tract; they typically develop in older adults, with less than 10% of cases presenting among patients under the age of 40. This report describes the clinical course and management of a 28-year-old woman with a history of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) who presented with acute upper abdominal pain. Surgical pathology confirmed a diagnosis of metastatic GIST.

Assessing changes in adolescent girls' and young women's sexual and reproductive health service utilisation following a COVID-19 lockdown in eSwatini.

The effects of COVID-19-associated restrictions on youth sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care during the pandemic remain unclear, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. This study uses interrupted time series analyses to assess changes in SRH care utilisation (including visits for HIV testing and treatment, family planning, and antenatal care) adolescent girls' and young women's (AGYW; aged 15-24 years old) in eSwatini following COVID-19 lockdown beginning in March 2020. SRH utilisation data from 32 clinics in the Manzini region that remained open throughout the 2020 COVID-19 period were extracted from eSwatini's electronic health record system.

Empirical guide to a safe thoracic paravertebral block based on dimensions of paravertebral space when ultrasound visualization is challenging.

Although ultrasound (US) guidance is the mainstay technique for performing thoracic paravertebral blocks, situations arise when US imaging is limited due to subcutaneous emphysema or extremely deep structures. A detailed understanding of the anatomical structures of the paravertebral space can be strategic to safely and accurately perform a landmark-based or US-assisted approach. As such, we aimed to provide an anatomic roadmap to assist physicians.

Anesthetic Management of a Patient With McArdle Disease: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

McArdle disease (glycogen storage disorder type V) is a rare inherited condition resulting in impaired energy metabolism. Challenges in anesthetized patients with McArdle disease include hypoglycemia, rhabdomyolysis, myoglobinuria, acute renal failure, and postoperative fatigue. We review the literature and discuss a successful anesthetic that had no perioperative complications for a patient with McArdle disease undergoing robotic-assisted lung wedge resection.

Role of an Intercostobrachial Nerve Block in Alleviating Tourniquet Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Introduction Tourniquet pain may have cutaneous and ischemic components. It is questionable whether blockade of a sensory nerve will help reduce ischemic pain. In addition, complete anesthesia of the axilla in the intercostobrachial nerve (ICBN) distribution is challenging to execute, and ICBN blockade has an inherently higher failure rate because of its variable anatomic location and source of innervation.

Postpartum Headache-Unmasking the Zebra Among the Horses: A Case Report.

Postdural puncture headache (PDPH) is a complication of dural puncture. An epidural blood patch (EBP) is the standard treatment; however, when EBP fails, alternative treatments and/or diagnoses must be considered. We present a case of orthostatic headache initially diagnosed as PDPH but likely due to spontaneous intracranial hypotension.
