A rhodamine-based compound (RBO), which has been constructed from the reaction between N-(rhodamine-6G)lactam-ethylenediamine and 2,1,3-benzoxadiazole-4-carbaldehyde, is reported here as a selective chemosensor for both Al and Hg ions in 10 mM HEPES buffer in water:ethanol (1:9, pH = 7.4). Absorption intensity of RBO increases considerably at 528 nm with these cations.

Search for a new reagent for the detection of a particular group members is of significant importance to the researchers of analytical and inorganic chemistry. We report here a rhodamine based compound, L1, for the colorimetric as well as fluorometric sensing of Group 13 cations in 10 mM HEPES buffer in (1:9, v/v) water:ethanol (pH = 7.4).

Two compounds, namely, 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-((pyridin-2-ylimino)methyl)benzaldehyde (HM-2py-B) and 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-3-((pyridin-3-ylimino)methyl)benzaldehyde (HM-3py-B), have been explored as fluorescent chemosensors for pH. HM-2py-B and HM-3py-B were synthesized by single step condensation reaction between 4-methyl-2,6-diformylphenol and the appropriate aminopyridine. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, H NMR, C NMR, ESI mass spectrometry, and absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy.

Two positional isomers, 4-methyl-2-((quinolin-6-ylimino)methyl)phenol (6-QMP) and 4-methyl-2-((quinolin-2-ylimino)methyl)phenol (2-QMP), have been synthesized to compare their fluorescence sensing properties. 6-QMP and 2-QMP have been synthesized by Schiff-base condensation between 2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde and the respective amine (6-aminoquinoline for 6-QMP and 2-aminoquinoline for 2-QMP) under mild conditions. These compounds have been characterized by standard methods.
