Unusual case of lower back pain-piriformis myositis: a case report and literature review.

We present a case of a 37-year-old male security officer with fever, severe low back pain radiating to left lower leg and diminished mobility for 1 week. His Lumbar spine X-ray was unremarkable, but his inflammatory markers including CRP, ESR and Neutrophils were high. CT scan with contrast showed rim enhancing fluid collection within the left obturator foramen with inflammatory change in the mesorectal fat.

Femoral offset found not to affect metal ion levels in metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasty.

Background: Failure to restore femoral offset in metal on polyethylene total hip arthroplasty (THA) causes polyethylene wear and aseptic loosening. To our knowledge, no study to date has investigated the relationship between femoral offset and wear in metal-on-metal (MOM) THA.

Aims: In this study, we investigated the relationship between femoral offset and wear by measuring circulating metal ion levels in MOM THA.

Does the surgery time affect the final outcome of type III supracondylar humeral fractures?

Introduction: Supracondylar humeral fractures are common in the pediatric population, with displaced fractures requiring operative intervention. The purpose of this study was to look at our practice and assess whether a difference in clinical outcomes and requirement for open reduction was observed if surgery was delayed.

Methods: This was a retrospective medical record and plain radiograph review of patients admitted with type III Gartland supracondylar fractures between January 2014 and December 2015.

Sources of adult mesenchymal stem cells for ligament and tendon tissue engineering.

Tendon and ligament injuries are common, and repair slowly with reduced biomechanical properties. With increasing financial demands on the health service and patients to recover from tendon and ligament injuries faster, and with less morbidity, health professionals are exploring new treatment options. Tissue engineering may provide the answer, with its unlimited source of natural cells that in the correct environment may improve repair and regeneration of tendon and ligament tissue.

How Effective are Lateral Wedge Orthotics in Treating Medial Compartment Osteoarthritis of the Knee? A Systematic Review of the Recent Literature.

Lateral wedges were originally proposed to manage medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee but recent reviews suggest that lateral wedges do not affect disease progression. We performed a systematic review to analyse the recent literature and define how effective, if at all, lateral wedges are in the management of medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee. The inclusion criteria were defined as any study published within the last decade, using a sample size of at least twenty patients, and investigating the effect of insoles or wedges on either unilateral or bilateral knee varus osteoarthritis.
