  • Needle stick injuries (NSIs) are common among healthcare workers, with a 31% prevalence found in a study of 210 HCWs in a hospital in Kerala, India, where the intravenous cannula was the most involved device.
  • The study highlighted that older healthcare workers (above 31 years) were more likely to experience NSIs, suggesting a need for targeted safety measures for this group.
  • The results emphasize the necessity for improved documentation, adherence to safety protocols, and effective post-exposure prophylaxis to mitigate the risks associated with NSIs in the healthcare setting.

In order to achieve high yield of fungal protease in a very cost effective way and to meet its increased market demand, current study deals with the screening of various agro-wastes as carbon source for the production of protease from Rhizopus oryzae (SN5)/NCIM-1447 under solid state fermentation. Substrates and culture parameters such as wheat bran, soybean meal, black-gram husk, rice husk, mixture of wheat bran, soybean meal, nitrogen sources, pH, temperature and incubation time were first optimized with one factor at time strategy and then EVOP factorial and yield of alkaline protease was achieved 412.8 U/gds at 28 °C and pH = 6 after 72 h of fermentation taking wheat bran and soybean as a substrate in 4:1 ratio.

Evaluation of anthelmintic activity of any drug when carried out in laboratory conditions by using the isolated worms from nature cannot be adaptable with artificial laboratory conditions. Therefore, the present study aims at developing a new adaptable method for evaluation of anthelmintic activity. The present anthelmintic activity study reveals a new methodology with housefly worms cultured in laboratory conditions that resemble parasitic pinworms found in human being.
