Knowledge and awareness of child sexual abuse related to POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act among medical and dental professionals in India: A cross-sectional study.

Background: The POCSO (Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences) Act was introduced in 2012 as a measure to safeguard and prevent interests of children affected by sexual crimes. Both medical and dental professionals are capable of identifying such cases.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of child sexual abuse related to POCSO Act among both medical and dental professionals in India.

Efficacy and safety of evenamide, a glutamate modulator, added to a second-generation antipsychotic in inadequately/poorly responding patients with chronic schizophrenia: results from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3, international clinical trial.

Background: Evenamide, a glutamate modulator, is currently in phase 3 of development as add-on treatment to antipsychotics in patients with inadequate response or treatment-resistant schizophrenia. This study was designed to determine if patients with chronic schizophrenia inadequately responding to a second-generation antipsychotic would benefit from add-on treatment with evenamide at a dose of 30 mg bid.

Methods: Study 008A was a prospective, 4-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating the safety, tolerability, and efficacy of oral doses of evenamide of 30 mg bid in patients with chronic schizophrenia treated at stable therapeutic doses of a second-generation antipsychotic.

Comparison of Full-Field Digital Mammography with Synthesized Mammography from Tomosynthesis in a Diagnostic population: Prospective Study.

Therapeutic Effect of Evenamide, a Glutamate Inhibitor, in Patients With Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia (TRS): Final, 1-Year Results From a Phase 2, Open-Label, Rater-Blinded, Randomized, International Clinical Trial.

The results from a pilot, 1-year, randomized, open-label, add-on treatment study in treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) with evenamide, a glutamate modulator, were not associated with any safety abnormalities at all doses (7.5-30 mg bid), with a high retention rate even at 6-month (~85%), and 1-year (~75%), and the absence of psychotic relapses during the 1-year treatment period. Overall, treatment with evenamide showed a gradual, sustained, and clinically important improvement up to 1 year in all efficacy measures (eg, PANSS mean change ~ -20%; CGI-S mean change ~ -1.

Epidermoid cysts represent a common benign cutaneous neoplasm resulting from the invagination and subsequent proliferation of epidermal cells within the dermal layer. They exhibit a predilection for the face, cervical region, upper torso, and scalp, manifesting as firm, mobile nodules with a characteristic central punctum. Surgical excision is the recommended therapeutic approach for sizeable or recurrent cysts, particularly when they elicit discomfort or aesthetic concerns.

Discovery of Ring-Annulated Analogues of Cannabidiol as Potential Anticancer Agents: Synthesis and Biological Evaluation.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a nonpsychoactive cannabinoid derived from and its potential therapeutic effects extend beyond its well-known antiepileptic properties. Exploring CBD and its analogues as anticancer agents has gained significant attention in recent years. In this study, a series of novel ring-annulated analogues of CBD with oxazinyl moiety were synthesized and evaluated for their antiproliferative effect.

A DC microgrid with renewable energy sources can achieve reduced current ripple, higher efficiency, faster dynamics, high voltage gain, and less operational stress by interfacing with an interleaved boost converter (IBC). The stability of an IBC linked to a DC microgrid supplying a constant power load (CPL) can be imperceptibly guaranteed by a conventional controller. A tightly regulated CPL with nonlinear and negative incremental impedance characteristics will lead to stability issues.

A multicenter, cross-sectional analysis to assess the safety and usage pattern of brivaracetam in the management of partial-onset seizure with BAEs-BREEZE study: A post-hoc analysis.

Objective: Brivaracetam (BRV), a third-generation anti-seizure medication (ASM) offers strong conformational receptor domain binding, faster blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability and better tolerability making it potential therapeutic option as an initial line or initial line add-on strategy for focal onset seizure (FoS). The following study was planned to further understand the role and relevance of BRV in the real world settings of India.

Method: This was a multicentric, cross-sectional, and non-interventional study conducted in patients with FoS across India.

Introduction: Proximal femoral nail antirotation - II (PFNA- II) is a common treatment for intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. Removing PFNA is difficult in rare circumstances due to blade head stripping or breaking. In this article, we endeavored to explain an easy methodology that can be utilized to remove stripped, damaged anti-rotation blades for which few had been formulated but other procedures have failed.

Role of serum lactate to predict early clinical deterioration in hospitalized adult patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 infection: A retrospective study.

Background: Hospitalized patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection are at risk of further clinical deterioration and poor outcome. In this study, clinical risk factors of the requirement of mechanical ventilation within the first 24 h of hospital admission in coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia patients have been evaluated.

Methods: In this retrospective study, admission characteristics of SARS-CoV-2-infected patients and risk factors for requiring mechanical ventilation and death within 24 h of admission have been evaluated.

Management of Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws With Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: A Case Report.

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) refers to the condition where the maxillary or mandibular bone becomes exposed and necrotic as a result of bisphosphonate therapy. The number of patients on bisphosphonates is increasing and so are the MRONJ cases. Since the initial data were published in the early 2000s, research into MRONJ has expanded significantly to enhance the understanding of this emerging condition.

Dielectrophoretic capture and electrochemical enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay of single melanoma cells at an array of interlocked spiral bipolar electrodes.

Analysis of single cancer cells is critical to obtain accurate patient diagnosis and prognosis. In this work, we report the selective dielectrophoretic capture and electrochemical analysis of single melanoma cells at an array of interlocked spiral bipolar electrodes (iBPEs). Following dielectrophoretic capture, individual melanoma cells are hydrodynamically transferred into picoliter-scale chambers for subsequent analysis.

Electrokinetic Preconcentration and Label-Free Electrical Detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA at a Packed Bed of Bioconjugated Microspheres.

In this communication, we demonstrate the electrical detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA at low femtomolar concentrations without labels or amplification reactions. Following its extraction from virus particles, the viral RNA was electrokinetically preconcentrated (100-fold) within a packed bed of probe-modified microbeads. This preconcentration was accomplished by counter-flow focusing of the RNA along an electric field gradient generated by faradaic ion concentration polarization (fICP).

Florid Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia Presenting as Secondary Osteomyelitis: A Case Report of an Undiagnosed Condition.

Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia is a rare, benign fibro-osseous lesion predominantly affecting middle-aged women which is characterized by the presence of multiple radiolucent and radiopaque lesions in the jaw. When complicated by secondary conditions such as osteomyelitis, it may present diagnostic challenges. We present a case underscoring the need for heightened awareness and accurate diagnosis of this disorder, particularly when presenting with complications such as osteomyelitis.

Solar powered integrated multi sensors to monitor inland lake water quality using statistical data fusion technique with Kalman filter.

This study proposes a data-driven statistical model using multi sensor fusion and Kalman filtering for real-time water quality assessment in lakes. A recursive estimation technique, the Kalman Filter, is employed to handle uncertainties and enhance computational efficiency. The fusion process integrates data from sensors monitoring parameters like chlorophyll concentration, surface water elevation, temperature, and precipitation, producing Markov features to capture temporal transitions and environmental dynamics.

Assessment of Respiratory Muscles, Lung Parenchyma, and Cardiac Function by Ultrasound for Predicting Weaning Failure in Critically Ill Adults: A Prospective Observational Study.

Objectives: The parasternal intercostal muscle activity, a marker of accessory muscle usage, is found to correlate inversely with the pressure-generating capacity of the diaphragm and level of support of mechanical ventilation. The primary objective of our study was to determine whether the parasternal intercostal muscle thickening fraction (PMTF) measured by ultrasonography can predict weaning. We also evaluated whether addition of lung ultrasound score and echocardiographic assessment can add on to predicting weaning failure.

Conservative Approach for the Management of Odontogenic Keratocyst: Our Experience.

Odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is defined as an intraosseous lesion of odontogenic origin, which can be unicystic or polycystic. The selection of a treatment strategy is complex, and several conservative and surgical approaches with varying rates of recurrence have been covered in the literature. To prevent further damage in these individuals, patients should have the proper diagnostic and treatment plan taken into consideration.

Mitochondrial apolipoprotein MIC26 is a metabolic rheostat regulating central cellular fuel pathways.

Mitochondria play central roles in metabolism and metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes. MIC26, a mitochondrial contact site and cristae organising system complex subunit, was linked to diabetes and modulation of lipid metabolism. Yet, the functional role of MIC26 in regulating metabolism under hyperglycemia is not understood.

Prediction of puncturing events through LSTM for multilayer tissue.

Recognizing penetration events in multilayer tissue is critical for many biomedical engineering applications, including surgical procedures and medical diagnostics. This paper presents a unique method for detecting penetration events in multilayer tissue using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks. LSTM networks, a form of recurrent neural network (RNN), excel at analyzing sequential data because of their ability to hold long-term dependencies.
