Seroma formation is a common sequel following modified radical mastectomy (MRM), which hinders healing, may prolong hospital stay, and cause a delay in adjuvant treatment. Closed suction drains have been used to prevent formation of seroma; however, the use of a single drain in the axilla along with draining the mastectomy flaps and axilla separately remains a topic of debate. This prospective randomized dual-arm study was conducted in the Department of Endocrine Surgery.

Background Balloon therapy is an empirical example that patients with respiratory tract diseases can use to improve their daily care. The diaphragm and ribs are expanded and raised by the intercostal muscles, which are activated during the balloon-blowing exercise. This makes it possible for the lungs to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.

Purpose: Proponents of a mid-vastus (MV) approach for primary total knee arthroplasties (TKA) stress its importance in preserving function of the extensor mechanism with earlier rehabilitation and decreased prevalence of lateral release. We conducted a meta-analysis of randomised and quasi-randomised controlled trials to compare functional outcomes of the standard medial parapatellar (PP) and mid-vastus (MV) approaches in primary knee arthroplasties.

Methods: The study was conducted according to the guidelines described in the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions.

Cocaine hydrochloride (50 mg) pellets implanted subcutaneously in male Wistar rats potentiated the analgesia of morphine, levorphanol, methadone and buprenorphine as measured by the tail-withdrawal test. Potentiated opiate analgesia was abolished by naloxone and further enhanced by desipramine and phenoxybenzamine. Yohimbine, alpha-methyl p-tyrosine, haloperidol, zimelidine, methysergide, p-chlorophenylalanine produced no significant effect on potentiated opiate analgesia.
