Agroforestry offers a huge potential for carbon sequestration, contributing to climate change mitigation and carbon trading. This study focuses on Bauhinia variegata and Celtis australis, two important agroforestry tree species in the Western Himalayas aiming to develop allometric models and biomass prediction ratios using empirical data collected through selective sampling and minimally destructive methods. Biomass components were categorized and weighed, and allometric equations were developed using diameter at breast height and height as independent variables.

Anterior approach to the hip joint is commonly used for paediatric hip disorders. Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) is always exposed and dissected in this approach before deep dissection is carried out. The course of this nerve has been described in adults but there is a lack of literature regarding this in the paediatric age group.

Article Synopsis
  • The Hindon River, a key tributary of the Yamuna, faces pollution issues due to rapid industrial growth and urbanization in western Uttar Pradesh, India.
  • A 5-year study evaluated the river's water quality based on 17 physicochemical parameters and 8 heavy metals across 19 sampling sites before and after the monsoon.
  • Results showed that only 4 sites had safe water quality indices, with heavy metal concentrations dominated by zinc, iron, and lead, indicating a critical need for attention to the river's health.

The healthcare system, lifestyle, industrial growth, economy, and livelihood of human beings worldwide were affected due to the triggered global pandemic by the COVID-19 virus that originated and was first reported in Wuhan city, Republic Country of China. COVID cases are difficult to predict and detect in their early stages, and their spread and mortality are uncontrollable. The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is still the first and foremost diagnostical methodology accepted worldwide; hence, it creates a scope of new diagnostic tools and techniques of detection approach which can produce effective and faster results compared with its predecessor.

Leishmaniasis is a group of disease caused by the intracellular protozoan parasite of the genus . Infection by different species of results in various host immune responses, which usually lead to parasite clearance and may also contribute to pathogenesis and, hence, increasing the complexity of the disease. Interestingly, the parasite tends to reside within the unfriendly environment of the macrophages and has evolved various survival strategies to evade or modulate host immune defense.

Objectives: To evaluate the antileishmanial efficacy of genipin, which specifically inhibits uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) that is induced in leishmaniasis to neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Methods: The effect of genipin was assessed against intracellular parasites in cultured macrophages and in suppressing spleen and liver parasite burdens in a BALB/c mouse model of visceral leishmaniasis by microscopic evaluation of intracellular amastigotes stained with Giemsa. ROS and mitochondrial membrane potential were measured by H2DCFDA- and JC-1-based fluorometric analysis.

In visceral leishmaniasis, we found that the antileishmanial drug Amp B produces a higher level of IL-1β over the infected control. Moreover, administering anti-IL-1β antibody to infected Amp B-treated mice showed significantly less parasite clearance. Investigation revealed that inhibits stimuli-induced expression of a multiprotein signaling platform, NLRP3 inflammasome, which in turn inhibits caspase-1 activation mediated maturation of IL-1β from its pro form.
