- Smoking leads to 8 million deaths annually and is the top cause of death in France due to various diseases. Minimal advice to quit smoking has proven effective, and the French High Health Authority recommends it for all patients.
- This study aimed to evaluate the impact of spirometry combined with minimal advice on smoking cessation rates among French military smokers compared to minimal advice alone.
- Results showed no significant difference in cessation rates between the two groups (17% vs. 18%), suggesting that spirometry doesn't enhance quitting success, but the overall cessation rates exceeded expectations, indicating minimal advice should be promoted in practice.
Background: This study presents the methods and results of the investigation into a SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in a professional community. Due to the limited testing capacity available in France at the time, we elaborated a testing strategy according to pre-test probability.
Methods: The investigation design combined active case finding and contact tracing around each confirmed case with testing of at-risk contact persons who had any evocative symptoms (n = 88).
