Relatively to the reference population, glass eels from the Lima estuary had lower weight and length, cholinesterase (ChE) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) inhibition, and lower levels of some anti-oxidant parameters, while yellow eels also showed a decreased F index, and increased Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase and lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels. Relatively to the reference population, glass eels from the Douro estuary had increased Na(+)/K(+)-ATPase and glutathione-S-transferase activities and LDH inhibition, while yellow eels also had ChE inhibition and increased LPO.

Materials And Methods: E-cadherin immunoexpression was analysed in ninety-three CCH, categorized according to Cockerell and Slauson (1976) criteria into four histological groups, representing different stages of tumour regression.
Results: All tumours expressed membranous E-cadherin both in keratinocytes, and in tumoural cells and no differences were noted among the histological groups analysed.
Expression of the luminal cytokeratin CK19 was examined in 102 canine mammary carcinomas by immunohistochemical analysis and associated with known expression of oestrogen receptor (ER), basal/myoepithelial cell markers, proliferation and survival. Negative staining for CK19 was present in 23.5% of tumours and was associated with histological type, grade, invasiveness, Ki67 index and expression of basal/myoepithelial cell markers.

Fibrin deposits also have been observed in horses with severe ischemic and inflammatory disorders by histochemical stainings (phosphotungstic acid hematoxylin [PTAH]).
Hypothesis: Immunohistochemical (IHC) methods can be used to accurately detect fibrin deposits in horses at risk of DIC.
Cadherin-catenin complexes play a critical role in intercellular adhesion, and their altered expression has been implicated in tumour progression. In this study, the expression of E-cadherin, P-cadherin and beta-catenin was analysed in 65 canine malignant mammary tumours and correlated with clinicopathological parameters, proliferation and survival. Reduction in E-cadherin expression was significantly associated with increased tumour size, high histological and invasion grades, lymph node metastasis and high mitotic index.
