Does Samaritan, a Digital Support Platform, Help Improve Social Determinants of Health for Mental Health Offenders in Jacksonville, Florida?

Background The objective of this study is to evaluate if access to Samaritan, a digital support platform, improves the social determinants of health (SDOH) needs for patients enrolled in a jail diversion program in Jacksonville, FL. Methodology A total of 59 patients who were enrolled in a jail diversion program for homeless mentally ill misdemeanor offenders in Jacksonville, FL, participated in the study. Of the 59 patients, 47 individuals consented to participate in Samaritan while 12 declined participation.

Jail Diversion Program Implementation in a Homeless Patient With Schizophrenia: A Case Report.

With a majority of prisoners in the United States having a history of mental illness and only half of these receiving mental health treatment, it became imperative to develop programs to assist those with mental illness to avoid repeated incarceration. The Eleventh Judicial Circuit Criminal Mental Health Project (CMHP) was developed to decrease recidivism in patients with serious mental illness (SMI). This case details how the Mental Health Offender Program (MHOP), created following the CMHP model, allows for substantial decreases in costs associated with non-violent offenders with SMI and provides wraparound services to improve their functioning and quality of life.

A Case Report of Dissociative Amnesia Involving "Detective Work".

Dissociative amnesia is a rare psychiatric disorder presenting with sudden retrograde memory impairment and inability to recall autobiographical information that is inconsistent with normal forgetting. This case report discusses dissociative amnesia with dissociative fugue in a middle aged male that led to him becoming homeless. Because of his autobiographical forgetting, he was unable to access services, and we present here the distinctive "detective work" needed to not only help treat his symptoms, but also help him legally establish who he is and gain access to housing.

Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (Frontotemporal dementia in DSM 4/FTD) is a progressive brain disease which frequently presents with neuropsychiatric symptoms. Prevalence of FTD is low, however the prognosis is poor. Early identification of FTD may improve quality of life, minimize behavioral disturbances and help with end of life planning.
