The Kernohan-Woltman phenomenon, a rare and often misunderstood neurological condition, is recognized as a false localizing neurological sign. This phenomenon is characterized by a motor deficit ipsilateral to the site of the neurological lesion and occurs due to the mass effect of supratentorial lesions causing a shift of midline structures and subsequent transtentorial herniation, leading to compression of the contralateral corticospinal (pyramidal) fibers within the cerebellum, ipsilateral to the lesion. This case describes a patient with human immunodeficiency virus-1 and chronic kidney disease who presented to the emergency department with uremic syndrome and a hypertensive crisis.

European health information systems lack comprehensive data coverage, especially in underrepresented migration stages like transit. This study aims to address this gap by analyzing data from INTERSOS clinics at the Moldovan and Polish borders with Ukraine to identify the common health conditions prompting people to seek healthcare services during transit.

This study aimed to describe the sales of veterinary antibiotics in Serbia.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on initiation of antihypertensive drugs in Sweden: an interrupted time series study.

Objectives: Antihypertensives reduce the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke. Restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic limited access to healthcare, which may have had a negative impact on drug prescribing. This study aimed to assess the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the initiation of antihypertensive drugs.

Predisposition and Working Conditions for the Occurrence of Lumbar Syndrome in Medical Workers of the Clinical Center of Montenegro during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Lumbar pain is a condition of discomfort in the lower back caused by numerous factors, lasting for short or longer periods of time. Healthcare professionals, regardless of the type of care they are engaged in, are at risk of lumbar pain. This is the first study that deals with the problem of lumbar syndrome in health workers in Montenegro.

Conventional and novel [F]FDG PET/CT features as predictors of CAR-T cell therapy outcome in large B-cell lymphoma.

Relapse and toxicity limit the effectiveness of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy for large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL), yet biomarkers that predict outcomes and toxicity are lacking. We examined radiomic features extracted from pre-CAR-T F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ([F]FDG PET/CT) scans (n = 341) of 180 patients (121 male; median age, 66 years). Three conventional (maximum standardized uptake value [SUVmax], metabolic tumor volume [MTV], total lesion glycolysis [TLG]) and 116 novel radiomic features were assessed, along with inflammatory markers, toxicities, and outcomes.

Introduction: Our department of anesthesiology has been conducting weekly, for several years, a group consultation to educate childbearing people about labor analgesia. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic forced an adaptation to a virtual consultation format. Since there are no studies about online group consultation on labor analgesia in order to understand its role, an anonymous questionnaire was created and applied.

Here, we investigate sensory representations in the inferior olive (IO) of larval zebrafish and their spatial organization. In recent years, carob has shown certain antioxidant and anti-dyslipidemic potential. In this study, Wistar rats were fed with a standard and cholesterol-enriched diet and treated orally with carob extract and simvastatin for four weeks.

Aortic Dissection With Cardiac Tamponade in Pregnancy: A Challenging Clinical Scenario.

Aortic dissection is the acute aortic syndrome with the highest mortality, and pregnancy and arterial hypertension are known risk factors. Its association with the perinatal period is a particularly unique and potentially devastating clinical catastrophe which is why the approach to a pregnant woman in cardiorespiratory arrest (CRA) should be multidisciplinary and early, with extraction of the fetus ideally within five minutes after the arrest. We present the case of a 39-year-old pregnant woman, who presented with a cardiorespiratory arrest in the context of an aortic dissection with cardiac tamponade and the need for an urgent perimortem cesarean section.

Identifying an optimal fludarabine exposure for improved outcomes after axi-cel therapy for aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Fludarabine is one of the most common agents given for lymphodepletion before CD19 chimeric antigen receptor T cells, but its optimal therapeutic intensity is unknown. Using data from a multicenter consortium, we estimated fludarabine exposure (area under the curve [AUC]) using a population pharmacokinetic (PK) model in 199 adult patients with aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas who received commercial axicabtagene ciloleucel (Axi-cel). We evaluated the association of estimated fludarabine AUC with key outcomes, aiming to find an AUC that optimized efficacy and tolerability.

CD19 CAR T-cell therapy and prophylactic anakinra in relapsed or refractory lymphoma: phase 2 trial interim results.

In preclinical models, anakinra, an IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra), reduced immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) without compromising anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell efficacy. We initiated a phase 2 clinical trial of anakinra in patients with relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma and mantle cell lymphoma treated with commercial anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapy. Here we report a non-prespecified interim analysis reporting the final results from cohort 1 in which patients received subcutaneous anakinra from day 2 until at least day 10 post-CAR T-cell infusion.

Pathogen-specific CD8 T cell responses restricted by the nonpolymorphic nonclassical class Ib molecule human leukocyte antigen E (HLA-E) are rarely reported in viral infections. The natural HLA-E ligand is a signal peptide derived from classical class Ia HLA molecules that interact with the NKG2/CD94 receptors to regulate natural killer cell functions, but pathogen-derived peptides can also be presented by HLA-E. Here, we describe five peptides from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that elicited HLA-E-restricted CD8 T cell responses in convalescent patients with coronavirus disease 2019.

Edible alginate-based films with anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity.

The viability of SARS-CoV-2 on food surfaces and its propagation through the food chain has been discussed by several stakeholders, as it may represent a serious public health problem, bringing new challenges to the food system. This work shows for the first time that edible films can be used against SARS-CoV-2. Sodium alginate-based films containing gallic acid, geraniol, and green tea extract were evaluated in terms of their antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2.
