Importance: Combining immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) with chemotherapy improves outcomes in patients with metastatic gastric and gastroesophageal junction (G/GEJ) adenocarcinoma; however, whether this combination has activity in the perioperative setting remains unknown.

Objective: To evaluate the safety and preliminary activity of perioperative chemotherapy and ICB followed by maintenance ICB in resectable G/GEJ adenocarcinoma.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This investigator-initiated, multicenter, open-label, single-stage, phase 2 nonrandomized controlled trial screened 49 patients and enrolled 36 patients with resectable G/GEJ adenocarcinoma from February 10, 2017, to June 17, 2021, with a median (range) follow-up of 35.

Mineral oil saturated (MOSH) and aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) and related hydrocarbons of synthetic origin are both packaging and processing contaminants of health concerns. The purpose of this work was to validate a method for their rapid and high-sensitivity determination in cocoa powder, using it to monitor the presence of these contaminants in products purchased in Italy and North Macedonia. Relevant primary and secondary packaging was also analyzed.

Large animal testing and clinical trials using bioengineered bladder for augmentation have revealed that large grafts fail due to insufficient blood supply. To address this critical issue, an in vivo staged implant strategy was developed and evaluated to create autologous, vascularized bioengineered bladder tissue with potential for clinical translation. Pig bladders were used to create acellular urinary bladder matrices (UBMs), which were implanted on the rectus abdominus muscles of rats and pigs to generate cellular and vascular grafts.

Background/aims: Endoscopic removal of bile duct stones has become the treatment of choice, which includes endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) in the majority of cases, destroying at least partially the Oddi sphincter (OS). Loss of sphincter function in variable grade has been described, but changes in innervation are not known.

Human ageing is associated with a gradual decline in the physiological functions of the body at multiple levels and it is a key risk factor for many diseases, including cancer. Ageing process is intimately related to widespread cellular senescence, characterised by an irreversible loss of proliferative capacity and altered functioning associated with telomere attrition, accumulation of DNA damage and compromised mitochondrial and metabolic function. Tumour and senescent cells may be generated in response to the same stimuli, where either cellular senescence or transformation would constitute two opposite outcomes of the same degenerative process.

Background: Allergy to airborne fungi can cause rhinitis and severe asthma, hence the exposure to spores inside home is an important factor of sensitization. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution and prevalence of species of Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium and Penicillium inside and outside of homes of patients allergic to fungi and to evaluate seasonal variations.

Study Objectives: We are currently carrying out a study on the changes of the upper airway in morbidly obese women and the relationship of the upper airway with the severity of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). This study is similar to the study by Fogel RB et al, which appeared in Sleep 2003;2:150-5.
