The aim of our study was application of chemometric algorithms for multivariate data analysis in efficacy assessment of the local periodontal treatment with doxycycline (DOX). Treatment efficacy was evaluated by monitoring inflammatory biomarkers in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) samples and clinical indices before and after the local treatment as well as by determination of DOX concentration in GCF after the local treatment. Within this research, a headspace (HS) gas chromatography-flame ionization detector-mass spectrometry method was developed for profiling of residual solvents (RSs) in active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Design of experiment was used for optimization of sample preparation, as well as for robustness testing of the method. In this study, hybrid silica xerogel particles were developed as carriers of budesonide (BDS) for efficient local treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Organically modified silica particles (ORMOSILs) were prepared by co-condensation of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) by an ambient temperature acid catalysed sol-gel process followed by spray-drying. Formulation for preparation of BDS-loaded particles was optimized and their physicochemical parameters and drug release profiles were evaluated in vitro.

We have tested serum samples from 24 patients with multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) for reactivity to ganglioside GM1 and to Gal( β 1-3)GalNAc-bearing glycoproteins isolated from human peripheral nerve and from Campylobacter jejuni (Cj) serotype O:19. IgM anti-GM1 antibodies were detected by ELISA in 11 patients (45.8%) with MMN and in only one subject (4%) from the control group.
