Article Synopsis
- The study aims to compare the Rapid Shallow Breathing Index (RSBI) measured by a ventilometer with those obtained from different mechanical ventilation settings in intubated patients.
- A total of 33 patients participated in a randomized trial where RSBI was measured using four different methods, revealing no significant differences between the ventilometer and CPAP modes, but lower values during Pressure Support Ventilation (PSV).
- The findings suggest that using RSBI from CPAP can be a viable alternative for monitoring breath efficiency, but in cases of borderline values, the ventilometer measurement is preferable since it yields higher RSBI values than the other methods.
