The subgenual anterior cingulate cortex (sgACC) has been identified as a key brain area involved in various cognitive and emotional processes. While the sgACC has been implicated in both emotional valuation and emotional conflict monitoring, it is still unclear how this area integrates multiple functions. We characterized both single neuron and local field oscillatory activity in 14 patients undergoing sgACC deep brain stimulation for treatment-resistant depression.

Rehabilitation therapy plays an essential role in assisting people with stroke regain arm function. Upper extremity robot therapy offers a number of advantages over manual therapies, but can suffer from slacking behavior, where the user lets the robot guide their movements even when they are capable of doing so by themselves, representing a major barrier to reaching the full potential of robot-assist rehabilitation. This is a pilot clinical study that investigates the use of an electromyography-based adaptive assist-as-needed controller to avoid slacking behavior during robotic rehabilitation for people with stroke.

(1) Background: The dynamics of hand tremors involve nonrandom and short-term motor patterns (STMPs). This study aimed to (i) identify STMPs in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and physiological resting tremor and (ii) characterize STMPs by amplitude, persistence, and regularity. (2) Methods: This study included healthy (N = 12, 60.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Ana P Arantes"

  • - Ana P Arantes' research primarily focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying emotional and motor processing, particularly in the context of treatment-resistant mental health disorders and movement disorders like Parkinson's disease and dystonia.
  • - Recent findings highlight the integration of valence and conflict processing in the subgenual anterior cingulate cortex (sgACC) during emotional face processing, as well as the effects of deep brain stimulation on sensorimotor integration in dystonia patients.
  • - Additionally, Arantes has explored innovative rehabilitation strategies using adaptive control systems in robotic therapy to enhance upper extremity function post-stroke and characterized short-term motor patterns in resting tremors of individuals with Parkinson's disease, aiming to improve therapeutic outcomes.
