Fostamatinib, a recently approved Syk inhibitor used in adult primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), has been shown to be safe and effective in this disorder. However, clinical trial results may not be similarly reproduced in clinical practice. Here, 138 patients with ITP (both primary and secondary) from 42 Spanish centers who had been treated with fostamatinib were evaluated prospectively and retrospectively.

We evaluated both classifications to prognosticate thrombosis in 1366 contemporary essential thrombocythemia (ET) patients prospectively followed from the Spanish Registry of ET. The cumulative incidence of thrombosis at 10 years, taking death as a competing risk, was 11.

Abnormal binding of FVIII to VWF (VWF:FVIIIB), results in low FVIII plasma levels, which can lead to a misdiagnosis of mild haemophilia A. Accurate diagnosis of type 2N VWD is essential for appropriate genetic counselling and therapy.

In low risk patients, time from diagnosis to cytoreduction was shorter in CALR-positive than in the other genotypes (2·8, 3·2, 7·4 and 12·5 years for CALR, MPL, JAK2V617F and TN, respectively, P < 0·0001). A total of 1104 (76%) patients received cytoreductive treatment with hydroxycarbamide (HC) (n = 977), anagrelide (n = 113), or others (n = 14).

An estimated 60% of the phenotypic variation is attributable to hereditary factors, with the ABO blood group locus being the most influential. However, recent studies provide strong evidence that nonsynonymous single nucleotide variants (SNVs) contribute to VWF and factor VIII phenotypic variability in healthy individuals.

It is a challenge to determine the pathogenic effect of potential splice site mutations on mRNA. This study aimed to elucidate the true effects of 18 mutations on mRNA processing, investigate the contribution of next-generation sequencing to mRNA study in von Willebrand disease, and compare the findings with prediction.

This assay is a matter of controversy, being considered by some investigators cumbersome and only slightly informative. The centralised study 'Molecular and Clinical Profile of von Willebrand Disease in Spain (PCM-EVW-ES)' has been carried out by including the phenotypic assessment and the genetic analysis by next generation sequencing (NGS) of the VWF gene (VWF).

The primary objective of this study was to estimate the incidence of symptomatic postoperative venous thromboembolism in adults at a tertiary university hospital, overall and by surgical specialty. The secondary objective was to analyze severity of and mortality from thromboembolic events.

The innate immune system plays an important role in the defense against different infections. Mannose binding lectin (MBL) is a central molecule of the innate immune system.
