Cortical hypometabolism on FDG-PET is a well-established neuroimaging biomarker of cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD), but its pathophysiologic origins are incompletely understood. Cholinergic basal forebrain (cBF) degeneration is a prominent pathological feature of PD-related cognitive impairment and may contribute to cortical hypometabolism through cholinergic denervation of cortical projection areas. Here, we investigated in-vivo associations between subregional cBF volumes on 3T-MRI, cortical hypometabolism on [F]FDG-PET, and cognitive deficits in a cohort of 95 PD participants with varying degrees of cognitive impairment.

Background: To assess gender differences in Quality of life (QoL) and in sociodemographic, clinical and psychological factors associated with impaired QoL in adults with long-standing type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1).

Methods: Cross-sectional evaluation in a random cohort of DM1 adult patients from a tertiary care hospital. QoL was evaluated using translated and validated self-administered Diabetes QoL questionnaire (Es-DQoL), and results transformed into a 0-100 scale.

In recent years a growing body of research is focused on the relationships between emotions and health. When it comes to diabetes, findings suggest that distress might play a key role in the acquisition and maintenance of health habits associated with diabetic management. This report describes two studies examining the roles of emotional abilities in diabetic management from two different conceptual points of view using two culturally different samples.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Ana Maria Castellano-Guerrero"

  • - Ana Maria Castellano-Guerrero's research primarily focuses on the intersection of emotional health and quality of life in individuals with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1), particularly examining the effects of gender differences on these aspects.
  • - Her study published in "Diabetol Metab Syndr" assesses various sociodemographic, clinical, and psychological factors affecting quality of life among adults with long-standing DM1, using a validated questionnaire to quantify these impacts.
  • - In another study featured in "Psychoneuroendocrinology," Castellano-Guerrero explores the relationship between emotional abilities and HbA1c levels, indicating how emotional distress influences diabetes management and health outcomes across different cultural contexts.
