Experimental schistosomiasis in the common marmoset Callithrix jacchus.

In order to evaluate Callithrix jacchus as an animal model for mansoni schistosomiasis, a group of 10 male animals were once percutaneously exposed to 250 cercariae of the Schistosoma mansoni SLM (São Lourenço da Mata) strain. Animals were periodically bled for measuring serum level of enzymes and proteins and for blood cell counting. When comparing pre-infection to post-infection values, a significant increase was found for alkaline phosphatase at 15 to 120 days p.

Donor PAI-1 expression inhibits the intimal response of early allograft vascular disease.

Background: The development of allograft vascular disease (AVD) may be related to altered expression of the fibrinolytic system. We determined the extent to which plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 (PAI-1) expression in donor tissue influences intimal proliferation (IP) in a mouse model of AVD.

Methods: We utilized an end-to-end abdominal aortic transplant model in mice to investigate the development of IP in 3 groups of 6 recipients.
