Intracranial germ cell tumors are uncommon brain tumors; germinoma is the most common tumor in children and young adults, and the most common regions affected are pineal gland and suprasellar region. Germinomas of the suprasellar region are accompanied by endocrine alterations, with adipsia being a rare presentation. Here, we present the case of a patient with an extensive intracranial germinoma whose initial presentation was adipsia, without any other endocrinological alteration, with development of severe hypernatremia and unusual manifestations derived from it, such as deep vein thrombosis, myopathy with rhabdomyolysis, and neurological axonal damage.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the relationship between serum testosterone levels and clinical outcomes in male patients with COVID-19, given the observed higher severity of the disease in this demographic.
  • Among 86 male patients, those who died had significantly lower testosterone levels (4.01 nmol/L) compared to survivors (5.41 nmol/L), indicating that low testosterone may be a risk factor for mortality.
  • Key findings include that testosterone levels below 4.89 nmol/L, along with age over 59 years and high lactate dehydrogenase levels, significantly increase the risk of death from COVID-19 in men.

Background: The myocardial infarction-associated (MI) mortality is not only due cardiovascular complications, but intrahospital non-cardiovascular complications (IHnCVCs). The leuko-glycemic index (LGI) has been used as a prognostic marker for the development of cardiovascular complications in MI. We focused this study on identifying the cut-off point of LGI for the IHnCVCs development in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Primary pericardial mesothelioma is an extremely rare tumor, of unclear etiology, nonspecific presentation, with a delay in diagnosis, and a poor prognosis. We present the case of a woman with pericardial mesothelioma, whose main manifestation was cardiac tamponade, currently alive three years after diagnosis and undergoing chemotherapy treatment. < Cardiac tamponade can be the first clinical manifestation of a neoplastic disease, including pericardial mesothelioma, so an adequate diagnostic approach should always be carried out in patients with this clinical picture.

  • Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a combination of risk factors such as obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension that increase the chance of cardiovascular issues and mortality.
  • Recent studies show that the metabolic and immune systems interact, influencing conditions like autoimmune diseases and metabolic disorders through factors such as genetics and diet.
  • There is a notable connection between MetS and autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD), as patients with ARD often display a higher prevalence of MetS, which may contribute to ongoing cardiovascular problems despite improvements in treatments for ARD.
